I resent how Ida is positioning herself as the "discoverer" of the JSB fiasco. We all know that it was mishandled. She can point her finger at Dean (for his ultimate responsibility) all she wants, but that doesn't advance the issue or win her votes.
Especially since her only solution is to
- implement the recommendations of the Huggett report (which obviously is already happening now anyway).
- provide "executive oversight" which means keeping an eye on things, which again, every candidate is promising to do anyway.
Even Dean has learned his lesson on this and will be watching things more closely I'll bet.
This morning I attended a board meeting of an arts organization I volunteer with. Our budget is only in the hundreds of thousands, not hundreds of millions. Yet I know that if revenues are flat due to lack of funding we have to cut programming because our other costs keep rising. Our insurance, heating, equipment costs and labour costs etc. go up with inflation regardless. If we want to go ahead with a new building plan I have to prove to our membership that we can pay for it with new and expanded revenue streams. It's not enough to float vague promises.
