News: Victoria to Host 2015 BreakOut West & Western Canadian Music Awards

by VictoriaMusicScene

Breakout West- Victoria 2015Victoria has been announced as the host city for the 2015 BreakOut West Conference and 2015 Western Canadian Music Awards.

Back in February, the City of Victoria allocated $25,000 towards the bid to host the event after the province kicked in $50,000 and the Capital Regional District arts committee agreed to commit $25,000.

BreakOut West and the WCMA’s will take place concurrently with next year’s Rifflandia Festival September 17 – 20, 2014.

The conference is estimated to have a local economic benefit of $1 million with 250 – 300 delegates expected to attend.

Ya, that's a neat development.  Hope it's staying beyond Christmas.  Rifflandia gift certificates would be neat.

Yup. Got a park pass for the day/evening shows, no late-night shows though.

There's nothing super exciting this year.

I hear a rumour you were coming, see ya there!   Ya, nothing at night is all that appealing to me, but I like lots at the park.

Plants and Animals on Friday at Metro will be a hell of a great show.  They are awesome live .. and not live.  :)

Jay Malinowski will be great as well, only chance you'll get to see the Martel performance I think.

I am dying to go but I don't think I can make it happen.

Matt.

Ya, this year there seems to be a few double-performances.  Not a ton, but I certainly see some.

So they have 201 bands this year.

23 venues if you include Thinklandia at the top of the Yates St. parkade (that has already started).

I'm going again this year - have a superpass. There's almost too much going on this go around! Multiple shows I'd like to see at the same time across town from each other. Agreed that it's less exciting overall though. More competition from other festivals makes it hard to get big names. Modest Mouse coming here is great though!
