Is this new? I have not been watching much TV lately and I saw this pop up on Survivor tonight. Is this the way advertising is going on TV?

We are watching the same episode and no ad came up during the broadcast, including the specific scene shown in your screenshot above. We are on Shaw. You must be on Telus or some other carrier that is inserting ads. That would annoy me to no end.

An ad just came on saying the "closed caption" was brought to you by ......and then there was a picture of that bottle. We just installed a sound bar so we mute the tv audio. They must think I am deaf or something.

Ah, sounds like some sort of closed captioning thing.

I am not sure if I feel better or not. Is this what we will be putting up with if we don't want to listen to the awful TV speakers?

Maybe it's time for me to drag out the old "short wave" and listen to Prairie Home Companion.

I don't understand how installing a piece of hardware would introduce ads into the video feed unless there was some weird software that was installed with it.

I think it must be because I mute the speakers on the TV and that's what kicks in the closed caption stuff whatever that is. I am getting too old to question this stuff anymore.....I am just going to shut up and enjoy. :)

Probably has a way to tell when the CC is getting used. I use CC all the time as I need it though don't see these much as I've cut the cord and rarely watch live TV now.

I've been seeing a lot of pop up ads. They're animated, too, and oftentimes cover up content that you want to see. It's not good.

Know it all.

It it's a CC thing Sparky, just turn down the volume to zero instead of muting it.  You might also want to dig around in the menu to disable the CC service.

I cancelled my cable several months ago so I haven't been watching any ads :)

No ads on the internet, cutting the cable has been great.  And by cutting the cable I mean watching the shaw guy stick a filter on my cable so I only get internet and not TV.

No ads on the internet...

Can I get access to THIS internet please? Mine is filled with ads from the top to the bottom of almost every site I visit.

There are several very nice plugins you can get for your browser that essentially eliminate all advertising from websites, videos, music, you name it.   They even allow you to set white lists so you can enable ads on certain websites if you feel bad about their ad revenue.

I think lanforod is referring to the Venus in Fur ads :)

If it is the CC that is doing it just go to the menu settings for sound and shut TV speakers off.

But I don't think it is the CC because I get some of those ads as well.

Oh, and they are targeted by the way, bottoms up.
