If somebody hits me with their car, no matter what I'm doing, if it's their fault, ICBC is going to cover me (if they are insured).  I need a better example.  What else can happen while I'm gardening?

In a park?  Lets go with 'stabbed by an HIV or Hep infected Junkies needle'

Slip on wet grass, break or sprain arm, wrist or hip.

Accidentally struck by another volly using a pick, shovel or similar

Heart attack

cakes..

I know, but all that can happen to me when I'm jogging in the park, and not volunteering on a project.  I don't see why I need to scramble for compensation when I'm on a volunteer job on city land, compared to when I'm volunteering at my brother's house making a shed, or walking in the park on my own time, or playing pick-up soccer in a park.

That's you.......sadly, many would.

Hmm cant quote on mobile?

At first glance I tend to agree with you VHF.. But supposing youre there vollying, slip in some wet grass, land poorly and do a good number on your wrist.. End up in a cast.. For me, that would mean no job, right then and there.. Now my demands are low, so i could probably survive for awhile.. But someone with a family and mortgage?

If its down to missing several months of mortgage payments or filing a claim against the city's insurance.. Whats your choice?

I guess what I'm saying is give the volunteers the option of signing off an iron-clad waiver.  I could slip and hurt myself in my own back yard this morning and be in the same situation.  Given the choice of that risk, or staying indoors always, I'll take the risk.

Saanich supports the volunteer-driven Mt. Doug cleanups.
