Matsushita/Panasonic is still a strong brand in Japan, as is Sharp. Sanyo is still around there as well, but I don't think it's ever been huge in the home country compared to Sony or Panasonic.

another big name that comes to mind is Hitachi, many of these companies were soo large and diversified that they could almost abandon the entire electronics space and still survive.

Mitsubishi too. I had a Mits TV from back in the day. Great stuff.

My very first transistor radio was a Philco and I paid over $50 for it in 1957. That was a lot of money in those days and it was a terrible radio.
