Question: With the concrete base for the crane in, will the crane sit outside the tower as it did at the promontory or will it be within the structure as at the low rise at the Encore? Different builders.

Some followers might find visiting the blog on the  VV Promontory of interest, since many issues are likely to be similar. Crane construction there is at about page 18 of 162.

See #418.

The first crane for the smaller tower is well within the building. The crane for the larger tower looks like it will sit just outside the building.

In the first picture in #441 you're looking at the base for the elevator shaft, not the crane. The crane will be much closer to where the picture was taken from.

Looks like the form for the crane base will be going up this week, so then it will be more obvious.

Thanks. But note that in 418  the crane  for the low rise is shown outside of the  building.

My rough eye ball estimate says it looks like the larger crane will sit outside of the tower.

Both cranes are outside their respective towers but within the parkades - so there is a degree of "rightness" in everyone's observations.   :teacher:

Gary, just out of curiosity have you noticed any differences in construction technics, process,  or overall design between Promontory/Encore that might be interesting?

Marko, I really haven't been following it that closely as I don't have any skin in the game.   :)

That said, it appears to be following the same tried and true construction techniques we've seen on other concrete tower projects.

While we can clearly see the main tower's foundation core pit is ready for formwork, that concrete pour on the north side among the bedrock may in fact be the footing for the second tower crane.  However, I don't see any tower anchors in there, at least in the shots I took.

The anchor is still sitting at the Roundhouse, right next to the turntable.

and with that... do they actually pour the 'whole anchor' INTO the cement ?   The anchor meaning YELLOW medal that holds the large bolts ?

Here is the first tower crane's base from a few pages back.  The anchor rods go into the concrete and the yellow base bolts onto it.  Taller cranes require longer, beefier anchor rods and a deeper concrete footing to place them in.  The last pictures are of Promontory's tower crane base.  I suspect that just like with Promontory they're forming the crane platform and will then form the actual anchor footing.  It could also be this concrete pour has nothing to do with the tower crane but I doubt it.

Here is the base sitting at the Roundhouse.

Looking at the base in the previous post, they poured a slab, set the base on it (easy to level that way) and then poured another slab afterwards.

On a walk by with the dog this morning; it looks like they have begun erecting the second crane. I didn't snap a picture, I might this afternoon/ evening if there is sufficient light.

Starting next Monday the 19th we’ll be erecting the 2nd tower crane.

Mobile crane set up Monday 19th and scheduled to be completed by end of day Tuesday, 20th.  All of these times are based on weather conditions ( mainly winds )

I don't envy those guys today. I'm surprised they're even working under such windy conditions.

Know it all.
