Those dogs! Does nobody pick up?

It's quite free of dog droppings, the vast majority of the park's users are good about that. It's dog urine that is likely causing the damage, it can be pretty harmful to grass.

True. A section of the front lawn at my building has experienced the same effects. Combined with the dry weather, the grass really hasn't had a chance.

When dogs run around they kick up the soil. It's very difficult to maintain a grassed dog park or dog run, which is why the new enclosed dog park in Vic West is made of gravel as is the dog run that just opened at the Hudson District.

There aren't a lot of dogs that use the dog park, particularly since the Vic West one opened. In smaller spaces with more dogs there might be a problem with dog pee kills or kicked up grass, but not in this instance.

 

The soil quality is poor. It takes days after rain for the water to work its way in to the soil. In the winter we call it the bog park.

 

The City of Victoria does spend a good deal of effort maintaining the park but caring for the grass doesn't seem to be part of that process.

The crane for the lowrise is now down.

They left behind a crane segment, presumably to extend the highrise crane. It is not at full height and will run out of room soon.
