If you are right then I wonder if this means that Vic will be cut out of any proceeds.

YES, they will be, unless of course they make a deal with the City, which they might I suppose to conpensate for a tiny bit more policing.

...the transfer of three parcels of land totalling 1.707 hectares in Rock Bay, British Columbia...
Shouldn't that really be "around Rock Bay, in the north end of downtown Victoria, BC"?

Sheesh, just "fill it in" already and build! We got rid of James Bay and Rock Bay seems like a waste of time to me.

I think you are right. Some nice real estate there. I guess you could put in a floating something.

Why would you build a casino on waterfront property? You want people inside gambling not admiring the view.

only victoria could find a way to build a casino and not benefit from it
The Songhees Chief has said the property is fee simple (it's not an extension of reserve lands), so maybe sharing rules do apply if it's a casino. We'll see. He says there has been discussion about a casino.

I think that any sharing arrangement would have been negotiated at the time of the land transfer. There is probably nothing to prevent the Gov't from cutting a deal directly with FN but if I had to guess I would think that Victoria would get something.

This thread can be the BC Hydro land, that includes that old building.

I wonder if this arrangement with the Songhees might mean further negotiations that would allow the E&N Trail to go alongside the tracks from Maplebank to Hallowell Road, instead of bypassing that area and along Admirals Road; or is that already in the works?

That thing is already set.

Interesting. I know that the Chief has said that the will be subject to zoning but I thought that FN owned lands were exempt from municipal taxes and thus part of the reserve.

He very clearly stated that the land is not part of the reserve. The reserve is crown land, the new property is owned by the band, but it's owned like any other property is by a private landowner.

It's taken them 30 years to figure it out, but look what they are dong with London's Battersea power station. It'll be home to 1,400 Apple employees by 2021. An elevator will go up to a glass viewing platform on one of the stacks.

That's a very interesting and ambitious plan, but I am almost certain it will block views of the Sooke Hills.
ps: 2012 or 2022?
