Hi there,

For reasons hard to explain, I've been interested in neoclassical architecture, particularly ones around here. The CPR Terminal is probably the best example in town, but are there any other buildings that incorporate columns or neoclassical elements into their design? The ones I've noted:

- The CPR terminal
- The Hudson building (with the public market) has corinthian columns as decorative elements

- The Bank of Montreal building has ionic columns as decorative elements

- The old Library building on Yates and Blanchard incorporates columns on its higher floors

Any others? :)

If you want tall columns then the church at Chambers & Pandora, the old bank building on the 700-block of Fort Street, and Munro's books all come to mind. But there are plenty of smaller columns on some of the churches and other buildings around town.

The old "Nelson's Music" church on Quadra, also.

Jack Davis and one block west 1802 Douglas, paying homage to the Hudson. Then one block south of there you have the Masonic Hall, which, strangely enough, has a streetview image PERFECTLY aligned with its official entrance. Coincidence? Never.

If neo-classical is your thing I don't think there's a better example than the Christian Science church. I went to Sunday school there and the interior architecture is just as interesting.

Oooh, good one.

And there's also 715 Courtney which I think was the ladies version of the Union Club.

Looking forward to Danma's photo spread of every column in town. Google reminds me that Craigdarroch Castle has a bunch of fancy marble columns.

Here's a rather obvious one I am surprised no one has mentioned:

I've always liked this place and think it would be awesome to restore.

Hah! I don't know if I'm gonna go around town and put together a giant collection of column images... just looking for some quality examples. Thanks everyone :)

Drive around Uplands and you'll find some houses.
