Oh, we can do away with the hysterics and fear-mongering ever so present in our televised media.
Are you able to provide a few examples of this from each of the two local TV stations?

Yes, of course. But there are about 50 other things I'd rather spend my time on.
But because I'm a nice guy I will leave you with two of my recent favourites since they're pretty awesome
1) Chek's coverage of the bridge span removal was absolutely fantastic, especially the part about how the operation came earth shatteringly close to causing mass destruction. No mention of how well the operation went, but how a tragedy was averted.
2) CTV's portrayal of how social media in the city could derail the future of the local film industry because purveyors of independent media/social media were announcing the locations of film shoots and seeking photos of actors, meanwhile CTV's own crew were engaging in the very same activities for their story that they warned would scare away productions.
And there are plenty more where that came from.

Yes, of course...
Thanks for taking the time. It would seem semantics are behind this catastrophic bloodbath of a battle (wink).

And Astrid isn't cheap.
I'm actually a bit surprised she is still in the Victoria market; typically "good" on air pros who are camera friendly - and lets be honest, she is - more often than not graduate to other bigger more lucrative markets; Jill Krop to Vancouver, ditto Sophie Lui, Bob Kendrick (currently in Ohio I think with the NBC affiliate) and Michaela Perriera (CNN New York) all ex-CHEK, all come to mind. I think Astrid is married so its likely a family decision to remain so good on her in that case.

Your definition of semantics is overly generous.

An easy one was the Atwell hack job where they tried to link him to that "Downfall" nazi parody. A low point in the history of a well run station. CHEK pulled the story from their website after its accuracy was challenged but not before a mysterious third party spread it all over social media via paid Facebook ads. But stuff like this is a rarity.

That was a major screw-up, legendary even. Did they apologize/retract their statements, Rob?

Certainly an ignoble episode, as perhaps are the other examples, but do you really consider it to be hysterical or fear-mongering? When I hear such terms, I think of Ezra Levant, not folks like Adam Sawatsky.

"Bike lane battle heats up in Cook Street Village
WATCH: Cook Street Village businesses say they’re being threatened over bike lane battle"
Of course once you see the piece they're not in physical danger at all, which "being threatened" implies. Actually what's happening is a cycling group has asked its members to boycott CSV businesses. I'll remember this new definition of "being threatened" next time I call 911 when someone is under duress because of a boycott on their well-being.

Likely not a big deal? It's certainly not the GVCC.
Ya, it's not. It's likely no formally organized group.

In separate statements Thursday evening Rogers and Shaw welcomed the CRTC approval.
“This approval is an important milestone and brings us one step closer to completing our transformational transaction with Shaw,” said Tony Staffieri, Rogers' president and chief executive, in a statement.
Among the CRTC's conditions are a requirement forcing Rogers to contribute $27.2 million to various initiatives and funds, which is five times what the company had originally proposed.
The CRTC's decision said 80 per cent of that sum will be directed to the Canada Media Fund, the Independent Local News Fund and certified independent production funds. The remaining 20 per cent will go toward initiatives proposed by Rogers, including the Broadcasting Accessibility Fund and Broadcasting Participation Fund.
Rogers must create an Indigenous news team with journalists in all provinces where the company provides news content to deliver stories to First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities.

/\ The $26 billion Rogers-Shaw deal was formally approved yesterday (of course it was - this is the CRTC we're talking about after all), with "conditions".
The centrepiece of the latter was the transfer of Freedom Mobile's licenses to Quebecor Inc's Videotron. This is to maintain at least a semblance of the illusion of 'competition' among wireless carriers in this country. Sure, that'll do it. That and the solemn promise by the industry minister who said that transaction will ensure the existence of a 'viable' fourth carrier in the country to that same "competitive" end; theoretically this will be Videotron which in turn "promises" to use Freedom to fulfil its long-held desire to expand across Canada..
I give you the CRTC ladies the gentlemen....Canada's regulatory version of a eunuch........
