I wonder what the fees will be like. I can't imagine letting anyone on the track for less than 100 bucks, regardless of duration. With wear and tear I would think any rental would be 300 to 500.  Drive a Porsche?  I don't see that being less than 500 and depending on duration, way more. Am I off base?

I was gonna say, that initial drawing is a very boring track...high speed but that isn't exactly what you want to use in selling cars to people...

In Vegas you can do a few laps in a Ferrari for $300 + insurance + taxes. When I say a few, I mean maybe a handful.

A motorcycle track day easily runs you $100-200 depending on the track. This is if you bring your own bike.

Superbike schools, where there are expert instructors and where they provide you with a bike, can easily be $1,000 a day. If you get into schools with real high end cars, I'm sure some of the prices are crazy.

There is definitely demand for this sort of stuff. From the kid with a souped up Honda Civic to the Porsche clubs to the motorcycle guys, people spend big money on track only vehicles, track day fees and schools. Is that demand enough to support a public or semi-public track on Vancouver Island? I'd like to hope so. People travel for this sort of stuff, so it could potentially be a good business for the island.

I was sceptical at first about whether there is enough business for this.  This is not just about $ at the track, it is a marketing tool to help sell more German cars.  Hey you buy this car and you get x amount of time at the track. to drive 100 mph over the next 2 or 3 years.    I think it is a very smart marketing tool to their sales business.  If the track breaks even or loses a bit oh well.   Thinking outside the box in this competitive age.

How about adding a performance driving school?
Mt. Tremblant had the Jim Russell school for years teaching safety, handling, skid control etc etc.
Lots of fun and a great way to become a better, safer driver.

This will also be a huge draw for people all across the country. Just think that 90% of this country can't drive on a race track between October and April. And the owners have money, lots of it.

I actually like that the promotion of this track includes other wilderness excursion ideas. They're selling the Island and that's fantastic.

Great story on Chek just now. They had the design that i posted. Weird. I guess they did not realize it changed. Going to be great for the area.

Property was purchased for 1 million. Council guy was very excited about the $ to the community.

Construction on this is well underway. Their website has lots of information. This looks to be a pretty serious operation. Big coin is being put up for this. The designer of the track is quite famous and has designed numerous F1 caliber circuits.

So this is going to be a club track, which I gather means pretty much totally private. They seem to be selling memberships. They are planning on being open Spring of 2016.

There will be opportunities available for non-members to access via track days as well as customers of any of the GAIN group

That's good to know. Track days can be quite significant revenue wise, so that makes sense.

When will the neighbours start complaining about the noise the track will generate?

Like it or not, this is the kind of attraction that brings in big money tourists.  It's good.

That's $$$.  "Ya, I keep a yacht at the mega-marina in Victoria, and my race-car is at the track in Cowichan Valley, and then really I just spend the rest of the summer at Tofino.  The helicopter service between all three is pretty decent".   That's the kind of tourist we need.

Offering tea and crumpets in the clubhouse could capture another important market segment.

I certainly hope they offer some track days at a reasonable cost for those who can't afford $30,000/year for the membership.  Would love to take my ride up there for a day.
