Key deals in Port Renfrew, seen as the next Tofino

Victoria developers have acquired some of Port Renfrew’s major landmarks with hopes to transform the tiny town on the west coast of Vancouver Island into a major tourism destination similar to Tofino.

Jack Julseth’s Three Point Properties and Ian Laing Properties are equal partners in a large property transaction signed Wednesday that includes the Port Renfrew Hotel building, 11 waterfront cabins, the Lighthouse Pub building, and the West Coast Trail Lodge.

It will still be Port Renfrew and like Tofino... waiting for the tsunami.

Great fishing in the area especially on the San Juan River; still need to work on portions of that road though.

Went up today and was able to get a guided tour of the developments at Wild Coast Cottages, as well as tour the new guests cabins adjacent to the government wharf.

Pretty impressive amount of work going on there.

What beach is that on the home page? The one with the man and his dog. Never seen a beach like that in PR. Looks like Tofino to me.

Ahh... the old bait and switch. That's not cricket to show that to people who may not be in the know.

OK that is across from PR where the campsite is. I think it was the height of the waves in the promotion that seemed out of context.

Based on the fact that I have camped on Pacheedaht many times I can pretty definitively say that is not a picture of said beach. Pacheedaht has a much steeper slope into the water, it is covered with driftwood and there is wildgrass growing everywhere. As someone who spend a lot of time on the beaches near Tofino, I can say that it looks a lot like a beach near Tofino.

No driftwood, no wildgrass. There is no way anyone can wade in the water like that couple in the distance like that, because it's a steep shoreline and the water gets deep very quick. And that building to the extreme right shouldn't be there as there is a river on that side of Pacheedaht, and then the West Coast Trail.

I'm pretty sure advertisers have always used photo touch-up techniques.  Does it make all that much difference?  If they showed China Beach (37km south) would that be awful?

I also have problem with the map that indicates where you can surf. Yes you can surf there if conditions are perfect. And with those conditions comes serious risk. You better be a really seasoned surfer - otherwise good luck to you.

It's not Tofino.  If we all agree that the guy and his dog are walking north (be it Port Renfrew or Tofino) then the land with trees on it extends waaaaay too far west for it to possibly be any vantage point from a Tofino beach.

Here's a pick I took of Pacheedaht a few years ago while camping. The driftwood and the wildgrass extends until about max 30' give or take to the water line. Then it slopes steeply down into the water.

All I had to do was a reverse image search and this is what I found. It may not be Tofino, but it ain't Port Renfrew either. link

Kalaloch Beach!  Less than an hour by helicopter from Renfrew.
