I hope something really nice ( and tall ) gets built in the parking lot beside the Janion...
The odds of something taller than the Janion getting built in that location are about 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000.

Do we need more trees on the tops of our tall buildings? Of course we do, this is Victoria.
Crews, using a massive crane, lifted a new 10-metre high pin oak tree up 60 metres to the roof of the Eugenia Place condominium building on Beach Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
The initial pin oak tree was installed on the roof deck in 1987 but was removed this year after it died.

I didn't think they'd go through with replacing that tree, when I read the cost somewhere. Over half a million dollars. You'd think they could've just been patient and waited for a 10 foot tree brought up the elevator to grow.

How the heck does that cost over $500k????
Cut the original tree down
dig out root ball/dig for new tree root ball, put dirt to the side
buy a new tree
crane up to the roof
backfill root ball with topsoil from original hole
a street closure permit, etc, etc
I am seeing no more than 20k
On another note there is a tower crane up at Camosun Interurban for the Health and Wellness building

The tree was an architectural element similar to the Mosaic's mosaic. They were required to replace it.
As with all buildings, at some point maintenance is required (thanks mandated depreciation reports....)

Exactly as it was, squirrels and all. A totally different tree or two trees or a holographic tree or a rose bush would have been unacceptable. Lawsuits from every corner.
