Yikes, what a day to do it. I hear it’s quite breezy out that way.

Know it all.

Way back in this thread we saw some images of the early concepts for this project, but I don't think we ever saw a hi-res and detailed pic like this...

There are some aspects that I wouldn't have minded seeing in the final product, but all in all I'd say this one actually ended up being better than originally envisioned (not better than prior proposals for the same site, but better than the original designs for this same proposal).

The long slab with tower is very popular in Burnaby these days....

For Tapestry, my thoughts are that the horizontal element is too pronounced and should have a break in the middle. Not just a section with no balconies, a complete break in the massing to create two distinct volumes. But I'm no architect or advisory design panel member  :1954_dancing:

I don't hate it, but for a tall-ish project in a prime location with rare political goodwill to back it up this will certainly feel like a wasted opportunity in the long run.

Significantly better proposals preceded this, but we had to wait for something bland and inoffensive before anything could get built in this prime location. That's the Victoria way.

Should be a nice place to live, but what's going on with the brick cladding on the right side of that one pic?

I noticed that too in the pic afterwards. It looks weird only where the sun hits it, so maybe the angle of the sun was hitting it exactly sideways. Where the brick is in shade it looks normal to me.

Looks like the building is just about complete - just some work being done on the streetscape. I was pleasantly surprised to see there's a new fully protected bike lane along the entire south side of the street as well as new crosswalks that connect to the pathway at St. Ann's Academy.

Not really much has changed on the exterior in over a month. Those darn Victoria Special Grey panels strike again.. :(

Those darn Victoria Special Grey panels...

A longstanding architectural tradition in the CoV... for the past 18 months or so?

I like the fact when the light catches the panels in a certain way you can see the slight buckling, making the building look like it's clad in sheets of faded tarpaper.

Rob Randall - a true gentleman and artist who can see beauty in the mundane (or grey panels).

Aastra, I'm hearing the 'buy one get one free' grey panel sale ended on July 31, so hopefully that'll end the current trend.

^Can't, because the clearance table is already filled by fake river rock.
