The former Podium Sports Bar on lower Yates has been for lease since last year, and it would appear that the son of the landlord will now be occupying the space with a restaurant/bar called Hawk & Hen.
No word on when they plan to open.

Wow, I tried that out and got "Hawk & Mother". I think they actually used that site.

There is something interesting going on here.
The operators appear to also be the building owner and manager. Kabir Baburi and Adam Delavie (whom I don't know) are going to be the operators. Kabir was the GM at Chandler's during the second half of my tenure at Chandler's, he was great to work for. He was tight with the owner and ran a few spots for him in Ottawa. I wonder if the owner of the building is actually the lawyer who used to own Chandler's?
I am told many upgrades have been done, including an expanded kitchen and prep area and a massive concept change with the help of Caleb Beyers (Caste Projects, look it up - some nice work there). Chef Liam Quinn (salt and pepper fox) is getting the space up and running while they recruit an opening team.
Matt.

When I worked there back in the Jurassic era the kitchen didn't even have gas service. The problem/advantage of that restaurant is the huge space. It has a lower lounge, a large main floor, an outer perimeter of smaller tables two steps up overlooking the main floor, and an upstairs function room. That's a lot of expensive square footage that you need to make pay. I can think of a few other Fort St. restaurants that struggled with big spaces and not enough revenue to cover costs: those places in the Mosaic and the old Villa Rosa.

Just tried Hawk and Hen yesterday for breakfast. The food was fantastic and really well priced.

of course the most ironic-hipster thing to do would be to actually use that to come up with a name

I can't find anything either. For some reason it's not even on the radar of the google nor Yelp.
I dined there last night with an out of town guest and the experience was underwhelming. Our server did apologize for the hour long wait for our three appetizers saying they were short staffed but it really was unfortunate.
The interior design of the restaurant is fresh and clean looking but it couldn't make up for the food and beverage service. I hope they can improve.
Cheers!

How was the food? What did you have?

So has ANYONE eaten here yet? It looks really nice inside but appears mostly empty when I've walked by - maybe it's just the location. However, they do appear to be building an outdoor patio in front so maybe that'll help. The pics of the food on their web site look pretty good. We'll have to try a skillet some time.

Maybe it's the pretentious hipster name that is keeping people away.
