Google Maps usually requires a submission before they notice a new road.

I can't speak for the OpenStreetMap system (it probably scrapes map updates, or has a local user that felt it was more important)

I believe it's user-driven, the OpenStreetMaps thing.

I suspect that a new road has to be supplied to map-makers and directories, but what I didn't expect was that it would take this long to have the road appear. You'd think that a municipality would submit this sort of data months before the road opened with the stipulation that the maps would reflect the changes on X date. I mean I've seen new roads materialize on Google Maps very quickly (like the opening of the access road to Costco via Leigh Road).

Google Maps is hit or miss with the speed at which they add new roads.

Just take a look at the Royal Bay development. It's far more developed now than what the roads they have listed suggests.

They've gone further north. Google Maps only goes as far as Caspian when in reality Kestrel and Bonaparte are both now open.

Open Street Maps has an accurate portrait.

"W Shore Pkwy" is now on Google Maps!! Woo!!

...sort off. The section linking the two is not yet represented, but by December I'm sure it will be!

So what's up with the W Shore thing? Wasn't it always called Westshore, but street signs identify it as West Shore, and Google takes that to mean W Shore, lol?

Oh, and here's a surprise.

Google is also suddenly showing Salem Road, Gittens Road, Cogan Road, Armco Road and Morris Road on the map, which don't even exist!

For many of us old-timers it was, and always will be, the Western Communities.  ;)

Those roads were removed when they built the top secret under ground bunkers.

Drove part of the new West Shore Parkway yesterday between highway 1 and Langford Parkway and back.

Noted there is a sign on the TCH southbound directing traffic to turn right onto W Shore Parkway to get to Highway 14. That's fine except the next 2 roundabouts have no such signage to directing the driver to highway 14. Also the highway 14 shield with the right arrow underneath has the TCH shield to its left with no straight arrow underneath. It actually looks like its directing TCH traffic to turn right also.

On the way back when approaching the Langford Parkway / West Shore Parkway roundabout from the Westhills Stadium the sign to highway 1 points right instead of straight.

Love the new road - signage sucks
