And if they can make money at that price, what does that tell you about the other stations in town.

I don't know if they are making any money. I feel like it's a loss leader, or Esso is giving them a perk in order to create habitual support of the station. Sooke has two Petro Cans and a Chevron.

A friend's family runs gas stations. He tells me they are prohibited from setting their own prices, aside from pricing higher. Maybe that's changed now, but pricing is controlled in Victoria. If you price below a certain rate, there are repercussions. It's anecdotal, I don't know what truth there is to that.

Sounds anti-competitive.
