I was going to say Glanford seems a bit out of the way for a student running back and forth to UVic.  There are usually lots of suites for rent out in the Gordon Head area close to good bus routes.  Even with a car, the bus allows for some good extra reading time.

Nothing specifically wrong with the Jubilee area either.  Most parts of Victoria that are not completely in the suburbs will have a population of crazies.  In the Jubilee area they tend to be old and stay in their apartments.

Geez, Sam, the guy who set himself on fire a decade ago was my friend's brother. His choice to do what he did where be did it had nothing to do with the Eric Martin Pavilion. In fact it was on the opposite end of the hospital where the parkade is. Life happens. A guy killed his whole family in Oak Bay, didn't he? Does that make Oak Bay a sketchy place to live?

Jubilee is a busy urban neighbourhood. No worse and no better than any other urban neighbourhood.

I had an office near Glanford and McKenzie and I thought the location was awful. Poor transit with a heavily auto oriented environment. To each his own, but the only reason I'd recommend for a student to live there is if they had employment nearby, family nearby, or got a great deal on a very nice home.

The Glanford area is just a hop skip and a jump from the Wilkinson Road Jail, but I wouldn't be too concerned, no one has escaped this week.

I believe parking passes are pretty pricey at Uvic too. I'd choose a place near good transit options any day.

$485 for a car annually.

That's not so bad. Apartments will charge two or three times as much per annum.

Update:

However there is someone who was inadvertently released yesterday.

Saanich police are searching for an inmate who was inadvertently released from the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre on Sunday.

Grant Christopher Barker, 30, is from Greater Victoria and is still believed to be in the local area.

They let him out, but are charging him with "escape lawful custody".
