I know the court has deemed her no longer capable or whatever, so hard to get a quote from her.

But you know, maybe she just timed her age right, gambled - what she liked doing - right up until she ran out of money and went into a home.

Anyway, hopefully they play a lit of high-stakes bingo at the home.

What we know from the article is that since 2000 (when apparently she had $100K) she has spent $300K more than what she had as income and is now $200K in debt. We also know that she liked going to the casino. I don't think that anyone established that she lost all of the money at the casino.

Should we laugh, or cry?  The CoV can't get anybody to rent it's 800-seat McPherson Theatre, yet somehow the casino can make a 600-seater work out there.

I think the casino folks will figure out we don't have the big drink/gamble/take-in-a show crowd here, as they might find in Vancouver.

I think that they would use the theatre as part of a loyalty program for their regulars.

Hey don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of the Culture Club, Roger Hodgson and Donny and Marie coming here.

That's what's coming to River Rock.

But I'm not sure we have the population and certainly not the regular gamblers, to support that.  Although they might just have John Cleese in residency for 6 months of the year, and sell out each night.

There's nothing quite like heading out to the Colwood Strip for a night out on the town. The lights, the sidewalks, that sweet, sweet smell of vehicle fumes. And the casino! Man, that casino! I remember the first time I had my picture taken next to its multi-storey concrete parkade. That was so awesome.

After the show you can whip up the Strip to McDonalds, or A & W.  You're likely to run into Celine Dion, Siegfried and Roy, or Don King.  Or if you are real lucky, David Screech.

In the flesh? You mean, I won't have to settle for the brass statue commemorating his tireless efforts to secure View Royal as the premiere gaming destination of near-western southern Vancouver Island?

Imagine a casino + hotel + conference centre like Quebec's Casino Lac Leamy at Rock Bay

I'm not much of a gambler so leave me out of it.

TC says Crystal Garden is out of the mix.  Helps is happy.  I think city taxpayers should maybe not be so much.   We own that building.

Sports Traders would require quite a renovation, I'm sure.

Maybe this will sit back-burner for a while while View Royal expands.

I was thinking the same thing.  I'm sure Colwood works with Lotteries a lot better than the CoV.  People can say all of the negative things they want about Colwood, but it's easy to get to and while I've never been in it, I would imagine it's as good as any other casino out there in BC.

Of course, a sharing agreement with Capital Iron's parking lot would work here.

A casino down on the water here would be cool, but I suppose there are remediation issues.

How about the parking lot beside Janion for a casino?

Why does the City say it can't be standalone?  Just a rule they put in for no good reason?

Heck if Jon Asfar has his way, we would have had a casino a decade ago!

Helps is hilarious. The City promoted the Crystal Garden site because they wanted to dump the money losing facility on someone else and now that the BCLC has said no thank you Helps is happy?!

From what I am hearing, Crystal Gardens is costing us between $500K and $750K a year and the only conference attendees who want to use the facility are the ones that we incent to do so.

Gamble and swim your way out of debt. I can see the signage from here.

I'll be on CFAX at 5PM today discussing potential sites for the casino. Any ideas that any of you may want to forward would be welcomed.

So to confirm, the City of Victoria had wanted the CG site as the location of the casino?

Mike, a question I would ask Lisa is how Council decided that the majority of citizens in Victoria want an expansion of gambling.

Don't be so sure.

If the BCLC really wants designated parking for the casino, it can't go downtown, or it needs to go at Value Village or Sports Traders and use those parking lots in a deal with Capital Iron.

screenshot-www.google.ca 2016-09-26 11-22-23.png

There are no places it can go downtown.  It could go at Ogden Point.
