I was on this yesterday morning from Vancouver. Got to say it was a great experience. Super friendly staff and a smooth ride. There were only about 30 people total.
One thing that I did learn from one of the staff is that for the parent company, this is one of about 100 vessels they manage. If that is indeed true, I can see where the space for some growing pains (and financial implications) comes from.
Give this some time. It is a great service, and really focused on the tourist, not the local commuters. However this local commuter would consider it again for the price point I got it at which was the $80 promotional offer.

38 today. Normally I hadn't been following the passenger loss closely but I had a family member on today. There's a steady upward growth happening.

So now is the time to spring the big bucks! You will likely be one of a small group at this point and be extra extra special. I would try it, as Mike said, if the return was later. And I had the money, lol.

Why is everyone so intent to see this fail? I would think that support would be easily generated for any new means to get off the Island.

Everyone is not intent to see this fail, but I don't think people have been chomping at the bit for a new means to get off the island, in fact we really don't need any more people getting onto the island.
Therefore the demand should be there for any new transportation service that only takes people OFF the island.

I fully agree.

I would like to see it succeed. But I do think the prices are set too high, even for tourists.

i doubt they have turned enough profit to cover any of the wages paid to this point...or to cover the fuel used to this point

I believe that is well recognized and accepted by the company. From what I understand from staff on board, they are focusing on tour packages and the cruise industry. That takes time to materialize, and also they need to "prove" themselves to tour operators. A season of issues free and timely service is likely part of the bigger plan.
I wonder how successful a single class off season service would be. Say Mid Oct to Mid April when the float plane service hours are restricted by daylight and are often affected by weather. If they could price that somewhere around $50-75, then I think winner winner chicken dinner.
Of course, it's that off season where the seas get a bit lumpy, so who knows.

Maybe they (Point Hope Marine) are repossessing it due to the unpaid account for the refit.
They have not made any profit and probably never will so wont be able to pay their creditors.
