^ Somehow it does not seem like the most economical use/alignment of the wood.

They're not normally on such a harsh angle and locally they're usually a little higher.  I don't think they're embedded at all so they need to weave like that or they would just fall over.

Yeah, something like that (in terms of the flavour). It doesn't need to be functional. My point is to obscure the plain fence from the most common camera angles on the affected holes. Heck, some temporary bushes in pots would probably also do the job.

Anyway, all of this is moot unless a televised event is going to be a regular thing there.

I still don't know where all this visible chain link is. I paid particular attention on 17 today and it is barely visible. It is there to keep people out of a pond/stream that runs alongside the hole.

PGA Tour Champions will return to Greater Victoria in 2017.

The senior golf circuit confirmed the stop at Bear Mountain with the official release of its schedule Tuesday, which includes the Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship on the Mountain Course from Sept. 11 to 17, 2017.

It comes a week earlier than this year’s event, which was won in an exciting three-hole playoff by Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie when he rolled in a 15-foot birdie putt on No. 18.

Bear Mountain officials chose not to comment for now, stating there are still a few I’s to dot and T’s to cross to finalize contracts.

Following the conclusion of the 2016 tournament, many players expressed their interest in venturing back to the Island resort, including Montgomerie, runner-up Scott McCarron and Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez, who recorded a course record 61 on the final day.

“It’s my new favourite golf course,” McCarron said afterward. “When I first came here on [the] Tuesday, I just loved the layout. It’s really one of the prettiest golf courses I’ve played my whole life. I think this whole place is one of my favourite places and I’d come back here on vacation, in a second.”

Montgomerie also had rave reviews for the property.

“I always treat golf courses as how many poor holes there are. This is a very good one. There’s not one poor hole on this golf course,” he said following his win.

And Jimenez, who enjoyed some of the splendid wines offered at the resort and some of the local eateries, said: “I will come next year, don’t worry. No problem, I will be here.”

Total attendance from this year’s event was never made available, but a source said the tournament drew roughly 6,000 fans per day and had targeted closer to 10,000. The tournament was broadcast on the Golf Channel to rave reviews.

Hope the weather doesn't bite this event on the weekend.

Apparently it's not televised this year.  That's a major setback.

I know that I may not go Sunday, if the weather turns bad.

Went up on Sat and was totally impressed with venue setup, organization and condition of course.

Guessing there was 5000+ spectators on Sat. With the grandstands and controlled flow of spectator traffic, the venues could of easily handled more without a hitch.
Great viewing options everywhere.

Not only were the shuttles up and down the mtn seamless(only an observation as I had a parking pass), they had shuttles all over the crse to assist movement of the
spectators.

Very cool was the Snr Pros. Who would stop and chat here and there during their round. They were very much appreciative of the fans.

Well done to Bear Mtn.

So John Daly shot 65-79-79, ended tied for 2nd to last place, and collected about $2000.  Tough outing.

Yes, but still has a huge following. The largest of any competitor and would follow him from hole to hole.

After the round he would draw an even larger following in the lounge (I heard).

People were kind of pissed at Daly, he didn't put any effort in at all on Sunday, one handing putts and missing etc.

The other guy that everyone hopes won't come back is Colin Montgomerie, total asshat, if he missed a shot he would berate the closest volunteer to him and try to make them feel it was their fault.

Rest of the field is a pretty good bunch of guys, friendly and appreciative.
