The two pile driving barges being used for the DND Jetty project were secured to moorings lastnight in Esquimalt Harbor when one broke free and was pushed high and dry in Plumper bay on the Esquimalt Nation waterfront. Booms were deployed, indicating fuel leakage though I am not sure of details.

It's either a fuel spill or they are preventing spill. The military ships have them around the ships too.

Those are some high-quality booms.

Just a quick correction, these barges are being used on the Public Works Graving Dock project, according to a message we received from CFB Esq. :)

Know it all.

The barge was refloated this morning, most of the fuel has been recovered already.

Vancouver Pile Driving says it has taken responsibly after a spud barge carrying between 20,000 and 30,000 litres of diesel that broke free and ran aground.

The company says the barge has been contained with a boom and its unknown how much fuel was spilt.

That's a lot of diesel.

Plumper Bay cleanup completed, coast guard says, but diesel remains.

diesel still remains at a beach near Esquimalt Harbour, but cleanup efforts are complete, the Canadian Coast Guard says.

Is this all part of the "world class" clean capability that industry is touting?  I thought the purpose of the cleanup was to....cleanup.  No?

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) today released its investigation report (M16P0062) into the grounding of two barges near Victoria, British Columbia. There were no injuries.

On 2 March 2016, the tug H.M. Scout departed Victoria, British Columbia, heading for Bamberton, British Columbia, with the barges HM Tacoma and HM Blue Horizon in tandem tow, one behind the other. As the tug encountered severe weather, the tow line between the barges parted resulting in HM Blue Horizon floating free and grounding near Clover Point, British Columbia. During a recovery attempt, a piece of the parted tow line fouled H.M. Scout's propeller, causing the tug to be partially disabled. With reduced propulsion and the HM Tacoma in tow, the tug and barge were pushed towards the shore by the sea conditions. Approximately thirty minutes later, HM Tacoma grounded while still in tow. The crew then released HM Tacoma's tow line and subsequently returned to Victoria.

Global news keeps saying now the Stanley Park barge phenomenon has gone to Victoria but we’ve had our fair share of barges long before the Stanley Park incident
