You can go there to vote for them, it's very easy.
The contest closes this Wednesday.

You can vote every day, and you can vote once with every method they have. So you can vote once with twitter, once with facebook, gmail, email, etc. I've been voting 5+ times every day.
Yes it's a stupid system.

I live nowhere close to Torquay but I voted for it anyway.

Their closest competition now is a field in Lilloett. Nobody else is close.

105,000 votes and only 100 between the two leaders. It's been like this since the beginning.

I know, it's been crazy, biggest lead I've seen is around 500. Both sides have been ahead many times.

Official results still to come in, but it looks like Torquay won.

There was a bunch of kerfuffle about people buying votes and BCAA taking them away so vote totals might still get adjusted.
My theory: BCAA artificially kept the race close in order to keep the contest in the news all month. The Lilloet entry probably doesn't even exist. It's just 3 pictures of an empty field and a super generic description!

^ If Lilloet doesn't exist then they will be the winner! Months of free publicity!

At least one article quotes a Lilloett librarian as the guy behind the drive there.

These types of contests are fatally flawed. They have nothing to do with public interest but rather who has the best techies who can set up proxies and script votes.

Know it all.
Citified.ca is Victoria's most comprehensive research resource for new-build homes and commercial spaces.

Ya, I think it's often the case.
This one also was completely winner-take-all. Zip for the second-place finisher. Sort of like when BC Lottery chooses you over Saanich for a casino.

If they had simply added a geo-check to restrict IPs to BC and an anti scripting block then the number of votes would likely been cut by about 90%. Doesn't make for much of a story though.

Playground equipment? Why not just plant large trees with low branches like the way it was meant to be, maybe an old tire and some rope thrown in.

I don't think you are allowed to wreck trees anymore.

They are an exercise designed to occupy stay at home mom's (this comes from my wife who is currently on mat leave so don't yell at me).

So... nobody feels even a bit embarrassed that neighbourhoods in Victoria or Vancouver would be competing against the following?
Visible from the highway, our new playground would quietly transform our small community. Families that live in relative isolation (especially families with preschool aged children) would finally have a meeting hub and a safe but exciting space to let their children explore freely; take risks, play among natural elements and make new friends. The playground would also cause families driving through our town to stop, stay and play and explore the area more fully, bringing economic benefits. A playground like this makes a statement to visitors - this community values and celebrates its children. Bringing local and visiting families into the park would also open doors for more family outdoor recreation such as hiking and biking.

Nope. Maybe if we treated funding for schools and recreation more like a democracy and less like a roman circus we wouldn't have to depend on a roadside assistance company to waste all of our collective time in order to get some playgrounds built.
