The coffee shop has moved from its Douglas Street location near the Times Colonist, to their new location in the Andrew Sheret building just around the corner on Hillside.

Outside seating is beside a babbling brook water feature.

It's an interesting looking space, but I'd recommend something other than those wooden country kitchen chairs. They look very out of place.

They do.  But they might look just fine if they were stained dark.

People go to Sam's to drink his great coffee, not to look at the chairs.

Take your rubber duck to try out the water feature.

You can also see some of the staff performing CAFE SOAP OPERAS during the Fringe Festival at the Fisgard Street location.

Season Finale is September 3rd.

That would help. I think black metal cafe chairs would do the trick.

Then you'd have good coffee AND an attractive space in which to enjoy it, especially when one has all the asphalt as a backdrop.

If you look at the first photograph you can see metal chairs inside the shop.

I think you can say that the owner is pretty successful at running his coffee business and is not concerned about the four light coloured chairs on the outside.

He's not concerned. But we are.

And for an investment of a few hundred dollars the outside could look as good as the inside and it might actually attract more customers.

So I take it neither of you would want to sit outside on those horrible chairs, and have not visited the shop and sat inside on the comfy chairs?

If I were passing by this location and thinking about getting a cup of coffee, upon seeing those odd country-kitchen chairs outside I would assume the coffee was likely an amateur affair and keep on walking. It's all in the marketing baby.

Perhaps that is "amateur" thinking.  If I was passing by and saw the sandwich board that said 2% Jazz, I would also wonder why there wasn't a more professional looking sign in the window...except I knew that the fine coffee was brewed by one of the most savvy baristas in town, and would sit on a tree stump in his parking lot just to experience the taste.   :)

I concur.

And all the hot sandwich boards are also made of real sandwiches these days.

Drove in at 9:15 today and they were closed, even though their window sign said open every day of the week at 6:30.

See, the whole place is falling apart since that chair faux pas.

I agree, and I am devastated.

My friends said that the shop needs some signage out near the street as it does not present itself as even  being there, let alone open for business.

I think the former location on Douglas was better.

Hence my suggestion that the patio area needs to look more inviting and less like an afterthought.

I agree, and it was an oversight on my part to want to go into a coffee shop that has great coffee but looks uninviting, sort of like crashing a zombie wedding cause you know they make good cakes.

Perhaps the outdoor furniture is on its way? I'm sure they'll replace those country looking chairs soon enough.

Know it all.
