So yes, we're in the middle of Canada's 150th year.  149 marked the completion of 149 full years.  We're 149.5 years old.  Jul 1 2017 will mark the completion of 150 years.

Oh ya.  But the day you are born you do not start celebrating your "first year" on the planet.  Or at least I didn't.

No, we hit 150 on the 1st.

of July 2017 - or did Confederation get moved to January 1, 1867?

"Canadian Confederation was the process by which the British colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick were united into one Dominion of Canada on July 1, 1867."

"Constitution Act, 1867". Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada. March 29, 1867. p. s.9. Retrieved September 3, 2012.

I wonder if an 18 year old stopped for drinking could use the "But officer, I'm in my 19th year of life" excuse.  We're setting a bit of a precedent here with this premature Canada 150 business.

The whole world celebrated the millenium on Jan 1, 2000, a year ahead. People got drunk anyway. :-)

I remember trying to explain that to the ignorati, but they refused to believe even when I told them there never was a year zero. I blame it on Prince (RIP) and Y2K (remember that?) hysteria.

Tensions in Ottawa last night and this morning over a teepee.

#resistance150 and #unsettle150 are things. Non natives are now being referred to as "settlers". White reporters are being marginalized by native leaders because of their race. In my view, these are some very nonconstructive and damaging tactics.

Indigenous people are calling for nationwide action. I feel like this could get ugly.

Natives rarely if ever rise up against their own corrupt governments.  I don't think many have the stomach for wider protests apart from a few spots here and there.

No need to celebrate Canada's 150th,just attend and hang out with the unsettlers.

http://www.msn.com/e...9v?ocid=DELLDHP

"Sen. Murray Sinclair, who chaired the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, will be on hand for Canada 150 events in Ottawa on Saturday as a gesture of reconciliation from the indigenous perspective.

"Celebrate is not the right word," he said. "I will be attending events.""

Mass exodus heading north over the Malahat as we were heading south.

Bumper to bumper from Shawnigan Lake turnoff all the way to Millstream around 3 pm going at an armadillo's pace.

Either they don't like our fireworks or they don't like the politics.

I find it a bit sad that the government has to spend a ton of money in advertising telling us to celebrate.

Also interesting that that they have a non-Canadian as the headline singer in Ottawa celebrations.

I say bring back Dominion day

Why? It has had virtually no meaning for at least 35 years.

That's because it hasn't existed for 35 years. It was replaced with Canada day for no good reason
