RAP will host both the 2017 and 2018 Men's Championships.  The HarbourCats submitted the bids with support of other local organizations, and will be the host organizers.  Although the level or brand of baseball here is different than the WCL League the HCats play in.

This is the major national tournament that puts together teams from every province, the best players, no age limit.  It's in late August and runs from a Wednesday until Sunday.  Locally here, we have the Mavericks League that plays out of Lambrick Park, it'll be similar calibre and age of players.

Because of the size of the tournament, a few games will be played on Thursday, Friday and Saturday probably at Lambrick Park.  At least in the initial proposal, those games will be free to attend, but will not include any host team, or BC team (Burnaby Bulldogs) games.

Burnaby is the provincial champion from 2016, so they get to represent BC in 2017 at the nationals.  Victoria will also field a host team.

$150 for 26 games:

The best men's baseball teams in Canada are coming to Victoria, and now baseball fans can secure their spot at Royal Athletic Park.

Tournament passes are on sale through the Victoria HarbourCats office, 1814 Vancouver Street or by phone at 778-265-0327. With a total of 26 games on the schedule, a handful to be played at Lambrick Park, baseball fans will get to feast on more great action at RAP.

The HarbourCats bid on and successfully attracted the 2017 and 2018 men's nationals, a first for the city of Victoria. With up to five games a day at RAP, featuring teams vying for the coveted Canadian championship, the action will be intense.

"The committee has been working hard for months now, and this is the first real public offering -- getting the tournament passes up for sale," said Gary Beyer, co-chair of the tournament.

The committee is selling tournament passes for the Diamond Club (field-level) seats and Main Grandstand (Section 10) areas only, and the full tournament pass cost is $150. Without a tournament pass, spectators will not be able to sit in those prime locations.

Day-pass and single-game ticket pricing will be announced later, when Baseball Canada releases the full tournament schedule.

"This is another affordable baseball event, just like HarbourCats games, and that's how we structured this to keep that consistency for people who love coming to RAP," said Beyer, who owns Tesseract Computers on Broughton.

"We know families, seniors and others will enjoy this, and will want to secure their seats. Keeping this affordably-priced was important to the committee."

It’s an event like no one in Victoria has seen before -- home runs, being hit into the ocean. Splash hits that will mark the opening of the Baseball Canada Men’s Championship in the B.C. capital.

On the evening of Wednesday, August 23, some of the best power hitters from across Canada will be representing their provinces, hitting batting practice pitches for home runs into the water between the cruise ship piers. The event is sponsored by Victoria Mobile Radio, in partnership with the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority, and with charitable proceeds going to the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation.

“This is something that has been done in a few places before, but never in Canada that we’re aware of, and we’re excited for how this will really help us make a big splash, pardon the pun, for the start of the men’s national tournament,” said Chair Gary Beyer.

“Ten home run hitters, hitting towering blasts over the home run line, to be declared the best home run hitter in Canada -- it will be a lot of fun and it will be a unique event that Victoria can really get excited about.”

The “Harbour Derby with Victoria Mobile Radio” will be free to the public, with White Spot supplying food options. Kayakers will be in the water retrieving all the baseballs.

The schedule is now set for the tournament as well -- the path to one of 10 teams winning the gold medal at the Baseball Canada Men’s Championship, featuring provincial champions from across the country. The host team is the Victoria Mavericks, comprised of local players with top pick-ups from Vancouver Island and B.C., while the 2016 provincial-champion Burnaby Bulldogs will represent B.C.

Details on remaining teams will be announced soon, so fans can be familiar with the competition for this event.

The 26-game tournament, being coordinated by a host committee and supported by the HarbourCats, will take place in Victoria on August 24-27.  Royal Athletic Park, home of the Victoria HarbourCats, will serve as the primary field hosting 18 games including the entire playoff Sunday.  The remaining games will be played at Lambrick Park, and all games there are free admission.

The schedule will see seven games played each of the first two days, August 24-25, with a total of nine of those games played at Royal Athletic Park.  Eight games will be played on Saturday, August 26, five at Royal Athletic Park.

Playoff Sunday calls for the first semi-final game to take place at 9:00 A.M. on August 27 with the second semi-final following at 12:00 P.M.  The bronze medal game begins at 4:00 P.M. and finally the gold medal game will take place at 7:00 P.M.

Every game on playoff Sunday will take place at Royal Athletic Park. The full tournament schedule is below and also available at: http://harbourcats.com/packages/mensnationals/ and on the 2017 Men’s Nationals social media platforms.

Well, the wind won the home run deby. Not a single player could get a ball 300 feet out.
