Henderson Hall also functioned as a masonic lodge not so many years ago as well.

Built in 1919 as the Parish Hall for St. Mary's church.

In a the hundreds of times I walked by that place and the 200 or so times in I was in st. mary's never knew henderson hall it was a masonic lodge. Was there no square and compasses out front?
Looks like maybe from the time it was built to about 2013 and sold to the freemasons in the 1950s? Was it sold by the freemasons in 2013?

In 1956, with the church’s building problems still unresolved. Archdeacon Nunns retired. His successor was The Rev. Hywel Jones who left the rural parish of St. John’s and St. Matthew’s Langford for his first city church. It did not take the quiet-spoken young Welshman long to realize he had many problems facing him. It took the Parish Council an even shorter time to realize the days of long discussions and postponed decisions were over.
In three weeks Hywel Jones had assessed the problems facing him. In three years the new church was planned, built and in use, and the old building demolished. In the following three years, the old Parish Hall had been sold to the Masonic Order, the dilapidated old rectory demolished, and a new Parish Hall built on the site. It was a monumental achievement. http://stmarysoakbay...story_long.html

Aren't both the preschool and the performing arts college in the newer parish hall on Elgin Road?

The college was looking for a new home a few years ago.

I remember that, but if they're about to lose their Oak Bay home, they're keeping it quiet, as is the preschool.

Perhaps it's quiet because they no longer need to move.

Henderson Lodge was constituted in 1920; when I was a member of St Andrews # 49 we held a joint Christmas fraternal party in 2009 or so with Henderson and Camosun Lodges respectively at the Blethering Place, which at the time was owned by one of the Brethren. I believe the order vacated Henderson Hall around 2012-13 as they now meet in Freemason's Hall/Lodge #1 on Fisgard Street, so the 2013 tine-line sounds about right to me...

I know a student there and they have used Henderson Hall as additional rehearsal space.
I went to Sunday School in that hall.
Walter Dodsworth was the principal.
We used to spend our money for the collection plate on candy.
Played hooky and got caught.

On Dec 13th at 1:20 pm police were called to a property on Yale Street where the body of a 25 yr old deceased male was found inside a garage under construction. The deceased was not related to the property and was known as having no fixed address. It appears the male may have been using the partially completed garage as shelter over the weekend. Police enlisted the assistance of Saanich Police detectives and foul play is not suspected. Cause of death has not been determined as yet and the results of an autopsy and toxicology are pending. https://www.oakbay.c...-dec-12-18-2016
