Love the quote from then Premier, John Oliver on the opening of the present day JSB.

The bridge officially opened in January 11, 1924, 13 years after the process had begun.

The final cost of the bridge was $918,000, 27 percent higher than first estimated.

British Columbia premier John Oliver told the thousands attending the ceremony,

I wish to congratulate the people upon the completion of a protracted and somewhat expensive undertaking.

Sounds familiar...

That $918,000 in 1924 is about $13 million today; still only a fraction of what the new bridge will eventually cost.
