Good site for wind - both predicted and occurring.

As of 3pm, winds at Tsawwassen were 34knts, gusting 40. That's a bit lumpy.

Depending on who you ask, BCF is shut for the time being, or done for the day altogether.

The Salt Spring Exchange is hosting a live webcam at the Fulford Ferry terminal from my shop, and there is a second to come very shortly to give a more complete picture.

Really badly handled today. 1/2 the media said it was done for the day, their website said same, their social media disagreed. And now this:
Even though their website has said this since 2:30pm:
While national media has said this since 3:15pm:

Classes for BC Ferries are based on common hull and engine type. Sometimes the passage of time makes ships of a class very different though.
There's no Northern "class" designation because the two current, and third forthcoming, ships are very different from one another.
Classes right now off the top of my head are:
Salish
Spirit
Cowichan (includes Cow, Coquitlam, Oak Bay, Surrey, Alberni)
Powell River
Capilano
Burnaby (Nanaimo, Burnaby, and once upon a time the New West)
Coastal
K
... I think that's it or close. The Skeena Queen was supposed to be the first of five identical boats but that money was reallocated to Fast Cat cost overruns.
My memory might be faulty (there's no question of that if you speak with my wife or daughter!) but weren't the Burnaby, New Westminster et. al., part of the original V-Class (Victoria Class) of 'seven' boats launched for BCF starting around 1963-ish?

So BCF is caught up now. Although I can see Sunday night being very heavy. Those that were hoping to leave yesterday might extend their stay and come back later Sunday than normal. Or, of course, it could be light since a lot of people that were planning to go over yesterday just scrapped the whole weekend.

I heard that the Coho had severe issues with sea sick passengers on Friday. Folks who caught the boat said the scene on board was pretty bad.
Know it all.

We went to Clover Point at Friday around 5pm to check out the wave action and were surprised to see the Coho transiting the strait. Guaranteed it was a terrible ride.

Coho has only ever missed one sailing in its almost 60 year history and it was not due to wind. that ship handles great in heavy seas.

Its not creative its a fact and I cant think of any coho sailing that has been adjusted they sail no matter what ...also the Clipper is Cancelled on a regular basis when winds hit 30kn from the south or the south east
Sidney to Tswassen Ferry route is mainly a north south route not east west and it gets cancelled far more often than the departure to horseshoe rte
