Yes you could enter Standard Furniture through the back using that mall.

Interesting. I didn't know Amphicars were ever available locally.

I remember the parking lot/rear entrance to Standard Furniture but I don't remember the mall. What was it like?

Hmmm. Was the bus really delayed or did she just miss it? Oh well, I suppose we should give her some credit for taking transit in the first place. It makes me wonder how the boss was getting to work.

Note the 1321 Blanshard address.

I guess that "girl" should be grateful that lazy bus driver's "delay" didn't get her ass canned. Clearly, BC Tel and BC Electric are conspiring to halt Women's Liberation. Stick it to the Man!

Yeah, but she was tough to work with. Her intra-office jealousy had created a toxic working environment for the clerical staff. Where was the professionalism? No wonder the boss was pissed.

Her grumpy demeanor was caused by lack of sleep. If you knew this guy was creeping around your front door at every morning at 6 am, you'd suffer from insomnia too.

Those shops along the outside were the Midtown Mall? I remember them clearly, I just didn't know they were called the Midtown Mall.

Come to think of it, the "midtown mall" might refer to the lower level shops beneath the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce bldg on the corner of Douglas & View across from Eaton's.

^No, that's known as the "Commerce Mall".

Here's the site of the CIBC building back in the 1920s.

I had my picture taken with Santa at the Commerce Mall. Maybe they didn't have space for him inside Eaton's?

Thanks, ressen. Fun memories.

The provincial gov't took BCER over in the early sixties calling it BC Hydro & Power Authority.

Living in James Bay, we got coal gas from Rock Bay. I think it was replaced with natural gas sometime in the '50s.

We used an icebox for awhile. I can see the iceman carrying the big cube on his back.

How interesting! When was this proposed? Late 90s or early 00s? It looks like it was for the site that the Aria is on now, correct?

That's a very wide fat wall of a building, although it does have some design flair. But it sure is *w*-*i*-*d*-*e*...

Yeah about a year after I moved here. I actually went into their info centre on Douglas a couple of times. Even then I was interested in this stuff.
