Police don't usually catch the smart ones...
Perhaps they can't afford to spend that much time outside the Legislature.

Straight from the horse's mouth? The police must have been chomping at the bit to catch this guy.

Police said that over the past several weeks large posters have been put up on Robinson Road warning about drug users and thieves at the cabin where the incident happened. It is too early to link the posters to the Molotov cocktails, police said.
Sooke RCMP Staff Sgt. Jeff McArthur said the attack on the cabin could be a case of vigilantism.
“We’re not sure at this point what the motivation is for this, if it’s motivated by vigilantes or something else,” he said. “We know who it’s targeted against, and there has been some police attention to that one residence.”
He said charges related to throwing Molotov cocktails are much more serious than those allegedly committed by people living in the cabin.
“Arson with disregard for human life, which is what this is, carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.”
He said those involved in the attack have ended up diverting police attention away from whatever might be happening at the cabin, and putting it on themselves.
“Violence and vigilante activity will not be tolerated,” McArthur said. “The Sooke RCMP will actively investigate and charge anyone who is responsible for these crimes.”

Hmmmmm, that's pretty hard to believe that would divert attention away.

Your lack of faith is disturbing. I would not be surprised or offended if the cops decide that catching a dedicated drug user or three is going to take a back seat to catching a reckless killer.

The entire notion of "diverting attention away" is pure politics and comes across as a lame excuse for ongoing inaction on their part. In reality the second event would only focus more attention to what's been going on there.
Do we really believe that police attention could be diverted from one crime simply because another crimes occurs in the vicinity? I sure hope not because that would effectively be an admission of incompetence. How easy would it be to manipulate police investigations if that were true?
I know some people like this sort of political BS but for the rest of us it just comes off as a raised middle finger.

Nobody killed anybody. There is no killer.
Note that I used the word reckless, and the staff sergeant said "with disregard for human life". Nobody died, but that was hardly the intent. You throw a molotov at a building with people in it, you have murder in your heart. Burning buildings tend to kill their occupants, and quickly.

Also true when they burn down from the meth lab exploding. I'd suggest that the police might find sufficient capacity to address both sets of crimes.

The Vic West police chase photo reminder at the top of this page seems a bit out of place now.

WIll first degree murder be hard to prove?

WIll first degree murder be hard to prove?
Yes. Although the delay between the death and the charge might mean that they used other methods in the interim to gain intelligence. ie. wire taps, recordings, undercover operatives. Heck, maybe even Mr. Big.
From the outside it looks like a murder-suicide attempt that failed on one half. That's pre-mediated. And Post-partum psychosis is not usually found so far out (18 months). At least that's what Google told me.
