West, what are the details regarding racism at SIC?

Ono an unrelated note, I've seen a MASSIVE increase in aboriginal homeless people on Victoria's streets, both men and women.

From 10x the population of 4%, to ?

Well that because of the apartheid we keep them in. Supported by their leaders.

After reading Megan Jezewski's letter in the TC yesterday, I honestly don't know where to begin.

Referring to discarded drug paraphernalia as impolite, is beyond ignorant.

Impolite is when someone doesn't hold the door open for you.

Syringes on the sidewalk and hidden in the grass is dangerous, and not simply inconvenient. You are the same Megan Jezewski who worked for AIDS Vancouver Island are you not? I am sure they are thrilled with your lack of retention for basic facts regarding infectious diseases and how they are spread.

Vibrant community? Perhaps you can clarify which parts are vibrant? The multiple overdoses? The beating with baseball bats? The stabbings? I think we are going to have to go with the police on this one. This is not a safe community.

Here is the thing that you, Ashley, Eko, and others need to realize. We honestly don't care what you think. We don't care that you are disappointed. You don't live in the neighbourhood. You don't have children at the school. You aren't parishioners. So you don't get to tell us that we need to be more patient, or compassionate.

The Cathedral has been incredibly supportive. To say otherwise is beyond ridiculous. Dean Tucker has been working and advocating for the poor for longer than you have been on the planet. It is disrespectful to call her unchristian and it is completely false.

I am sorry if that is hard for you to hear. You will outgrow the phase of believing that everything you think is correct. But it is past your bedtime and it is time for the adults to talk.

...so ...last night we went to the Victoria Event Centre for an evening shindig that drew a lot of folks who were from out of town. Not even 10 feet from the entrance a woman was crouched down on the sidewalk sticking a needle in her arm.

Yikes.

^ This activity is a normalization of deviance. Unless there is a concerted effort to change, this is what you can expect to see when entering the downtown core.

This behaviour is what you expect to see in Vancouver in the DES isn't it?

Get used to it.....that is of course unless you don't put up with it and do something about it.

The DVBA's Ken Kelly in the article above:

"This place is a zoo."

That was nine years ago. What does he think of the situation today?

The problem is we just accept the next worse situation as the new norm.

DVBA put out that release about calling in sleepers, last week.

Yesterday I saw 4 sleepers after 8am.  Did I call them in?  No.  Because I suspect police also saw them, but did not bother stopping.

^ You are assuming that someone else is responsible for taking care of the situation.

You have a business located in the downtown core. If not you then who?

I expect the police to do it on their own without needing a call, but they do not.  Will my call make them do it?  I guess it might, but it seems they should do it anyway.  We all know that day back in summer 2015 when they were not doing it on Douglas St.  This is what DVBA said:

Please call the City of Victoria’s By-law Enforcement Office at250-361-0215 (from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday) or in the evenings and on weekends, please call VicPD’s non-emergency line at 250-995-7654.  Please do not hesitate to use these numbers because we can make a difference if we all work together!

But if I watch a cruiser go by a sleeper and not stop, what am I to expect?  Yes, the police car might have been on another (more important) call.  But some days I can see the same sleeper in the same place for hours.

I call BS Ms. Brett:

A camper at tent city says residents living on the courthouse lawn are trying to comply with a fire safety order...Christine Brett, a resident at tent city, says steps have been taken with clean up crews twice a week...Brett says the campers were not given a lot of time since they were just made aware of it last week...

http://www.cfax1070....eing-taken-to-m

Funny, I heard about the safety concerns at SIC months ago. The "residents" have had months to make their hovels safe. Also why are SIC clean up crews only active twice a week? Are they otherwise too busy with their 9-5 jobs?

Firstly, she's not a resident. Secondly, she has been absent as of late.... Funny she's back on site again.

Interesting how some of the biggest backers are calling for Tent City to be shut down.

OK, sparky, I called one in this morning to bylaw.

A bit of a discussion ensued, as the sleeper was in the doorway of private property, and only about 14 square inches of their chattel goods were on public right-of-way.

I said, "well I'm almost certain that the property owner likely does not want the sleeper there, but I'll tell you what, I can see the name and phone number for the leasing agent (who also likely would not want the person there), I could call them".

Anyway, she said she'd dispatch the appropriate response.  15 minutes later, walked by again, two police and a by-law person there, looks like they had persuaded the sleeper to pack up, as they were getting up it seemed.

And she's not a resident

At one time she was a part-time resident I think.  She had two homes, a traditional one up-Island, and one in SIC.  I'm not sure if in the judge's ruling he said part-timers could camp there, away from their regular home.

Bravo.

This is what it is going to take if you want your city back.

This is a bylaw infraction, response from authorities is activated upon complaint. Nobody complains, no problem.

Unlike criminal activity where the police will respond of their own accord OR a complaint from the public, alleged bylaw infractions NEED to be called in.

I just sent one in to Saanich this morning via email along with 5 pictures. Different type of infraction but well worth the effort.

I would like to see the new "Ambassadors" filing bylaw complaints. They are everywhere even if their back of jacket identification is covered up by a safety vest.

What a novel idea, to have the ambassadors do the work tax payers are asked to do.

Good grief, this administration has created such a mess of our city and we've got two more years, at least, of the status quo :(

Ever notice how nearly every pro-tent-city letter is penned by a poverty business person?

So the other day I was informed that I have a Hit on me....this is not the first hit I have heard of around Tent city....the reason being is that I spoke about the violence at tent city and the people who are leading/ doing the violence. I am going to the police about it....I am making this statement public as I WILL NOT TOLERATE FEAR AND INTIMIDATION PUT ON ME OR ANYONE ELSE......IF SO MUCH AS A HAIR IS HARMED ON MINE OR ANYONE'S HEAD THAT IS CLOSE TO ME OR LIVES AT TENT CITY....THERE WILL BE MORE CHARGES......PART OF BEING A VICTIM IS TO FALL FOR THE FEAR/ INTIMIDATION TRAP....AND I WILL NOT BE ANYONE'S VICTIM......TAKE THAT BACK TO YOUR SO CALLED LEADERS....YES I AM PISSED!,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,thea ,,tsastilqualus
