You photo shows that 2 fence posts have already been vandalized.
Some one should call Tower Fence and tell them to come get it before it gets picked up by someone and sold for scrap to fund the purchase of small rock of crack. the post was standing last night, when I was passing by at about 10pm

Or used in a crime, be it to smash a window during a B&E or to commit an assault. I'd be shocked if that post was still there at this point. Then the blame would be placed back on Tower Fencing for not fixing it fast enough for providing the 'weapon' 🙄 (Tongue in cheek) because God forbid they be responsible for their actions at some point. Someone has to enable them for everything they do...

The poles are not cemented in.   I'm not sure it was a good idea to install them then leave them for the weekend like that.

HB, did the crew tell you when the fence order was put in?

Know it all.

I'm amazed they were that stupid to only half finish the job and leave the poles like that!  Obviously something is going to happen, if not the junkies, some dumb drunks over the weekend...

Are all the poles still there, be they vertical or horizontal? Tower Fence should become a VV member in order to stay on top of their projects.

Noticed 2 things this afternoon as I passed by the location.

through an open window at the back of CCH Pandora side it is east to see graffiti all over an interior wall

Our Star Drug Dealer was back at it today but noticed that he has a pretty nice Bicycle with him.Now I am not saying that its stolen but I am definitely thinking it is

...Our Star Drug Dealer was back at it today...

So we know the authorities are aware this location is one of the most active drug dealing sites in the downtown core. Why is this sort of activity still allowed to happen? Why are laws regarding illegal drugs basically ignored in this city? It's really starting to make me angry.

So if we probably agree that only 5% of user utilize the centre, and only 4% of them survive, why are we spending so much on this?

http://www.sfchronic...ons-7386218.php

Only 4 percent of heroin addicts kick the drugs, stay clean and become functioning members of society. The other 96 percent end up in prison or dead.

San Francisco Supervisor David Campos’ proposal to build a safe injection facility where intravenous drug users can legally shoot up their illegal drugs of choice does not sit well with me.

Enabling drug addicts to prolong and pursue their addictions while being sanctioned by the city of San Francisco is not leadership. What’s next? Safe sites for alcoholics? How about safe sites for people with anger management issues? Perhaps we can pair them up and let them battle with each other.

The last thing anyone, including me, looked for when using, was a safe place to shoot up. Supervisor Campos should invest the time and money of San Francisco taxpayers toward rehabilitation centers with beds, counselors, education and support systems. Telling drug addicts it’s all right to use drugs benefits only prisons and funeral homes.

After following a cohort of heroin addicts for more than 33 years, researchers from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Drug Abuse Research Center found that nearly half of the original group of 581 men first interviewed in 1964 had died by 1997, when they would have been between 50 and 60 years of age. The study also found that about 40 percent of the 242 survivors reported past year heroin use and many reported other illicit drug use.

So, half of the 581 died between the ages of 50 and 60.

And of the rest of the 242 remaining (fuzzy math), about 110 were still using, 33 years later.

Only 132 of the 581 are alive and not using, but remember, they are also old, so using might be hard now (too old to commit petty crimes to support your habit).

I have to imagine by the time you are injecting heroine into your eyeball and sharing hypodermic needles with acquaintances in a dark alley you are pretty far gone. Your entire family and all of your friends have given up on you. It has probably been years since you had a job or went to school. I'm sure many of these people are irreparable. There has to be a reason you see so many of the same people on the streets for years and years.

yes there IS a point of no return...that should scare these people more than anything...n the damage is so extensive even when they get clean...it alters, changes ur whole life, every little bit of it...you are NEVER THE SAME even after u recover...I saw my BFF go through it after he became then recovered from being a crack addict...and his ex wife had some telling words, she said "I used to have compassion for addicts until I saw what they did to mercilessly destroy my (former) husbands life"....cuz he used to be a goody goody church goer and sheltered , the type of ignorant and niaeve person these scum junkies LOVE to prey on and manipulate and take advantage of, and he even said "I'm used to being around church people, I'm not used to dealing with such evil people"...so the problem is the PEOPLE...but dare you say that , or else you are labelled "intolerant/judgmental" - even though its the TRUTH...

There is a faction of our society that spends an enormous amount of time and money attempting to save lost souls by enabling. I think they mean well (at least in the beginning) but does enabling bad behavior solve the behavioral problem?

I have often said that the definition of a socialist is someone that has nothing and wants to share it with everyone. Safe injection sites go far beyond that in my opinion.

First of all it is my belief that possession of a controlled substance (read narcotics) is against the law. Why is that I wonder? Secondly, trafficking in narcotics is also against the law. Now I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest that there is a high number of addicts that are not gainfully employed and require money to purchase drugs. I am going to go further out on that limb and suggest that "some" addicts resort to stealing in order to pay for their drugs. Stealing is also against the law.

So I have this to say to the faction of our society that insists on enabling the behavior that I have referred to above.

Mind your own business.

You are destroying our downtown by enabling behavior that the rest of society abhors. This behavior is illegal. It should be prosecuted, and these poor souls should be institutionalized, taken care of, and treated.

Stop trying to normalize crime. This is what normalizing crime looks like in Vancouver, and it's not solving the problem, it's making life worse for everyone affected by this disease. Don't let this happen in Victoria.

I'm concerned there that she blames lots of others, but not her ex-husband.

Curious use of the term "private property" for the new fence at 844 Johnson in today's TC. Not only do they not connect it to the housing they do not explain that it's privately owned - by BC Housing.
