Seems there was a drug overdose death at or near the public washroom on Langley Street, just near Bastion Square.
Ambulance and a few police cars blocked off the area beside it.

Organ transplants at the hospital are on the rise due to overdoses.
Are the organs coming out of the overdosed person, or into them to keep them going longer?

Don't worry, self driving cars will ensure many, many more people die on transplant waiting lists.

There is a story in today's TC, about a mother's anger at having to wait 2 to 4 weeks to get her daughter on a methadone program.
Now, the story does not say it, but I'll guess her daughter has been a addict for more than 2 to 4 weeks already.
The mother says it is upsetting because "it's a very small window when they agree they need help".
Look, it's a very large window of 8 months when my mother needs a new hip, but she toughs it out.
These addicts and their enablers really do feel entitled. Look, the reason there is a 2 to 4 week wait is because the few doctors that prescribe methadone need special training, and it's likely to weed out abuse.
Our health system needs to be examined closely, it does not work well and there are all kinds of tales of people being failed by the system. It is even possible it contributes to the homelessness that we see by confining people to disability by failing to adequately treat conditions in a timely manner and contributing to addiction to pain killers for the same reason. No one goes broke because they can't afford healthcare in Canada, but many go broke because the healthcare system can not afford to treat them in a timely way. Two tier is likely part of the answer to the problem - let those who can and want to pay, do so - but there are zealots who would rather see everyone fail than give up on their utopian ideal of single payer.

Problem is without being sarcastic you are asking people who don't always know where they are or who they are to press a button before crossing a road .
They are just as likely to be having an argument
with the lamppost as crossing the street .
You can not use logic with an addict
Perhaps this should be clarified "an addict with a sever mental health problem, or an addict who is currently high on an illegal drug" - there are many addicts, some are very rational and logical, they just tend to be those addicted to things other than illegal drugs and without concurrent psychosis.

Right. If that mother in the story was just allowed to pay a doctor $50 to get her daughter in to see him for a prescription they'd be set. Instead now we have a new story about how addicts are being driven to Nanaimo to see a qualified and available doctor.
