If these "transitional housing" facilities are such a boon to a neighbourhood, why all the secrecy regarding location?

They couldn't name them because they hadn't officially closed on them. So said the BC housing rep anyways.

BC Housing has to be careful not to get ripped off again like they did with the Baptists!  :o

The Cool Aid contract for Mt. Edwards expires today. Any word if it has been quietly renewed?

Contracts (with this gov't) were made to be broken.

The residents need to move out while the building undergoes a rezoning don't they?

They said they might as it undergoes upgrades.  But we'll see.  They do not to simply see it undergo a rezoning.

This is what was promised to the neighborhood over and over again last year by BC housing and Coolaid. I still have the voice recordings of these promises. We brought up our concerns of an extension at the time and were mocked. Here we are now, one year later, and they are keeping people in the building. They have already decided what they will do with the building on a permanent basis and the community has still not been consulted.

The OB Lodge replacement is not ready for a year or two.  Can't be that.

My mistake. I dug through paper work and the Cool Aid contract for Mt. Edwards expires at the end of the month. So I guess there will be an announcement sometime this week.

Is there a new tent city beginning to form near the entrance to Reeson Park?

Probably. It's a shame the Northern Junk project is still in a holding pattern since this would likely discourage an encampment in this area.

No one moving out. No consultation. I know people who contacted BC housing and heard back. They give different answers to different people and do evrything they can to avoid going public with anything. I guess they like the "divide to conquer" approach. They say they have started the rezoning process with the city....but i have heard nothing from the city....

Tents go up at 6pm and come down at 7am, just like the bylaw says. This group knows the rules and sticks to them. Bylaw and police are there in the morning to enforce any lingers by about 8am. Graphitti and crime is up in the area but the campers say it's not them, it's a few new comers that don't know not to **** where they sleep.

This is interesting. It would appear that people who are not homeless can not use a park the same way a homeless person can. Section 14 of the Parks Regulation Bylaw states the following

14(1) A person must not do any of the following activities in a park:
(d) take up a temporary abode over night;

but then goes on to state something entirely different specific to homeless people. Note also that there does not seem to be any reference to there NOT having to be shelter beds available for this to apply.

Overnight Shelter

16A
(1) Sub-section (2) applies despite the general prohibitions under section14(1)(d)and section 16(1) of this Bylaw.

(2) A homeless person must not place, secure, erect, use, or maintain in place, in a
park, a structure, improvement or overhead shelter, including a tent, lean-to, or other form of overhead shelter constructed from a tarpaulin, plastic, cardboard or other rigid or non-rigid material:

(a) subject to sub-section (b), except between the hours of:

(i) 7:00 o’clock p.m. of one day and 7:00 o’clock a.m. of the next day
when Daylight Saving time is not in effect; and

(ii) 8:00 o’clock p.m. of one day and 7:00 o’clock a.m. of the next day when Daylight Saving time is in effect,
