Spend enough time on here and you eventually learn everyone's touchy subject.

Gehry proposed a cultural centre in Poland, this might be a taste of what he has in mind here, likely on a much smaller scale:

It’s like Star Trek. There’s a bunch of nerds who’ll recite every word of every episode but 90% of us are indifferent. I’d say that’s about on par with the Indianer thing.

Know it all.

The Roundhouse location marked by an X looks tiny for a cultural centre. As Rob said it’ll be on a smaller scale than the Polish Proposal (great movie, check it out on Netflix).  Then again, the Polish Project is so small the average man can’t even stand upright in it.  Reminds me of the Derek Zoolander Center.

Or the Spinal Tap Stonehenge.

The best part about the Guggenheim in Bilbao is the exploded VW Beetle, the café and of course coming through the tunnel from the east side and having the expanse of the estuary and museum open up. Otherwise total snooze fest.

Here’s an interesting story from CHEK: the article mentions that about half of the 2,000 residences planned for the Roundhouse Marketplace will be affordable rentals. https://www.cheknews...o-urban-752533/

I don’t think that’s accurate. The report identified 25,000 square feet as affordable. We’re dealing with towers totalling some 1.7 million square feet, if I recall correctly.

Know it all.

^ Yah, the proposal has a 25,000SF affordable rental building separate from the other towers.

I think this is one of those cases where the word "affordable" is being thrown around without reference to what the City would actually secure through a housing agreement.

From the article:

...it’s just close enough to the downtown core to have an urban feel, without the urban sprawl.

Indeed. When it's possible to throw a frisbee from downtown proper over to the area in question, I'm going to say concerns about "urban sprawl" are a wee bit misplaced.

Guys-

You're right, I imagine that the statement in the CHEK news article re: 50% affordable housing was an error not caught by their internal editor.  I watched the video linked to the article and at no point does the news story mention the 50% affordability target...

the aerobie has the world record for a disc throw.

1333 feet.

but it’s not a “frisbee”.

I was actually thinking of an Aerobie flying ring when I said that. I've never been able to throw a traditional Frisbie-style Frisbee flying disc very far (as VV's ultimate team knows all too well).

Now if you'll excuse me I was playing a lot of Ping-Pong™ earlier today so I'm going to enjoy some Jell-O™ and a refreshing Popsiclewhile I soak in my Jacuzzi.

Lots of noise floating around re this project. The actual specifics of the current rezoning request are on pages 92-100 of the submission on Dev tracker. This rezoning is for North parcel. The hyped but unspecified Gehry building is not on that parcel, but on the South, which will be seeking rezoning "at a later date"

This project was revised again in May and is under CALUC review in Vic West.

Several new documents are posted on the city’s website, including new development data. It looks like they intend to build almost 2 million square feet and just shy of 1900 units:

10 years will go by and nothing will be built, but hey there will be yet another new set of plans.

Aquara is still aways from completion, don't think anything will get started at Roundhouse before that one gets completed?
