Also what's the guidelines for using names of minors before they are released by authorities? Or does that not apply if they are dead, rather than a charged suspect?

OK, thanks.
I don't know; was the TC off base in using those comments? I feel it is a significant story that shouldn't be swept under the rug, even if telling it fairly causes the family distress. Tough call, but we are in the midst of a crisis that is killing good people.
As a fentanyl crisis ravages B.C., funeral parlours are being advised to stock naloxone kits to reverse possible overdoses among mourners at services or staff who handle bodies of overdose victims.
The B.C. Funeral Association sent a bulletin to members in early November explaining the importance of carrying the kits, as the province battles a public health emergency brought on by a sharp rise in drug deaths this year, said executive director Charlotte Poncelet.

Seriously? People can't even stay clean long enough to attend the funerals of their friends?

A T-C op-ed piece about fentanyl, written by a VicPD officer, which I don't think has been posted on VV otherwise.

I found it very uninformative. It was posted this morning in the homeless thread.
And I read it this way. When it was heroin, there were risks all the way along, so fewer dealers. Now that it's fentanyl, and cops never bust small-time dealers, it's all over the place with no enforcement.

^ Yeah I don't get it. We have the crowd that believes that we should legalize everything and then we will all be better off and that is essentially what we have now in Victoria. We now have the highest per capita overdose rate and the same people are now surprised and think the answer is more money into treatment.

But the answer does lie in treatment and prevention; it doesn't lie in continued enabling.

Today's TC is marking the fourth anniversary of Roderick MacIsaac's suicide. I don't know about anybody else, but the way that whole thing unfolded and remains unresolved really infuriates me.

Agreed. How can it be possible to have the whole thing hushed up? Who ordered the firing and why?

Surely it can't be that hard to figure out who ought to have been involved and hold them accountable for the absence of a paper trail, if nothing else.

Police have seized $1 million in cash and a large quantity of illicit drugs as part of an investigation of a drug trafficking ring on the Saanich Peninsula.
RCMP worked with Central Saanich police and Saanich police to target a drug production operation and several drug traffickers, said Sidney/North Saanich RCMP spokesman Cpl. Doug Wilson. A press conference will be held today to reveal more details,
“During the joint investigation, a number of search warrants were executed by police, which resulted in the seizure of large quantities of controlled substances, as well as over $1 million in cash,” Wilson said.
Many people have been arrested and charged in connection with the drug operation.

Wowza, that article sucks. I'm not sure about the hanging comma but the last line is also very vague. It's like a half effort. Fail.
Oh, and the press conference is tomorrow, not today.

Cha-ching! From yesterday's T-C Comment section.
Give the lady a cigar: bet this type of 'discussion' makes Pam and others very nervous and difficult for her to sleep at night - I sure hope this resonates with a few local councils (the "white haired elite" comment aside):

This: "Resident groups hold far too much sway over our elected officials. So instead of voting in favour of supply, innovation and change, councillors vote development down"

People are resistant to change, that's for sure. Worried that new developments will 'ruin' their neighbourhood, or attract the 'wrong' kind of people or a million other 'reasons'.

I'm curious why the Times-Colonist has NOT reported on the Vic High teacher scandal? A teacher suspended for an inappropriate relationship on May 1st was still teaching my child yesterday and the school has sent out no communication whatsoever. I had to find out about through social media and phone the school to find out what is going.

Theere have been a few times lately when they have missed stories that seemed to me to have significant local interest. Not sure of the reason. I get they they don't have the same capacity they once did but there's not THAT much local news to keep track of. I do sometimes feel like perhaps they shy away from certain bad-news type stories.
