Does anyone know where one might be able to take classes in Sushi making. Not looking for a career just interested in some "hands on" learning from an expert so that I can entertain.

Thanks.

I recall seeing some Japanese food courses recently at one of the rec centres. Gordon Head or Commonweath--can't remember. Check the recreation guide.

Temaki is probably your best bet for company. It means 'hand rolls' - so , rather than you doing all of the preparation, you simply have bowls of rice, and plates of fillings, and your guests roll their own (so to speak!). Head down to one of the local restaurants on a non-busy night (I'd recommend KOTO on Fort St.) sit at the sushi bar, and ask the chef to show you how to make them. The other part is how to make the rice..
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

We do a lot of it at home, tempura, rolls, seared tuna. It's good but not as good as the best restaurants. It would be good to get some proper instruction.

^That sounds suspicious. one minute you're making sushi, and before you know it you're half-way to Singapore scrubbing out a bilge tank because you didn't read the fine print.

London Chef on Fort St. ran sushi classes recently.

Discusses a one year college course in New Westminster (a shortened version of the more typical 10 year sushi course offered in Japan), but probably still way more than you're seeking.

jbw

editted to add, here's a 3-hour course November 1st, in Victoria for $85 (8 spots remaining).
