I'm surprised so few cycled to the event, I guess was my point, but the weather certainly didn't help.

I would have thought hard-core cyclists wouldn't be deterred by a little rain.

Gentle mist can be very annoying.

I didn't cycle because of weather. Bused instead. I normally ride almost every day. Just this terrible summer weather is getting me down.

Absolutely a great event though. Had a really good time.

Don't get down yet ... summer doesn't start for two more days!

But where does it stand on the "that would make a good name for a rock band" scale?

Very low on the "rock band" scale, but VERY high on the "easy listening" scale.

"Gentle Mist's new album - perfect for listening at tea and biscuits time".

A Muzak channel. Or a "feminine hygiene" product from the makers of Summer's Eve.

Car Free YYJ will be back on Douglas Street this Sunday, June 17, from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Extending over nine City blocks, the day-long celebration includes four stages with live entertainment, a 4,000 square foot park on Douglas Street, multiple all-ages licensed food and beverage areas, a 19+ Beer Garden, more than 350 local artists and makers as well as activations created by local businesses and organizations.

This year, Car Free YYJ is honoured to host the First Peoples’ Festival which presents a complete day of programming, vendors and food in celebration of Canada’s First Peoples’ culture.

Douglas Street from Caledonia/Chatham Streets to Courtenay Street will be closed from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Johnson, Yates and Fort Streets will remain open to vehicular traffic. All other cross streets will be closed.

Best place to park to go there? I suppose the parkades are ideal, accessed off blanshard or government?

The City's info is:

"Although parking will be free at City parkades and on-street meters on Sunday, alternate transportation is encouraged as it will be busy downtown.

To accommodate the road closures on Douglas Street, temporary Transit stops will be available on Blanshard Street and signs will be posted.

A free bike valet will be available on Pandora Avenue to accommodate cyclists."

car-free day today.  the irony would be if it brought in lots of rarely-downtown people today then they got a parking ticket because they forgot or did not know sunday parking was no longer free.

Maybe they can just read the signs?

Why isn't Ben Isitt protesting the police expense relating to Car Free YYJ day?

Police (at least the reserves) do traffic control at both events.

that does not require uniformed police. it should be handled by private contractors just like at any construction site.
