I was in the other day and bought a couple of bananas that were $.88  a pound and that seemed reasonable to me.

Not of the bananas are rock hard green, or brown and mushy with fruit flies buzzing around.

Is everything WF sells food wise organic? I was in the other day and bought a couple of bananas that were $.88  a pound and that seemed reasonable to me.

No, not everything, but they tend to stock a far larger selection of organic fruits and vegetables and processed foods with organic ingredients.

I thought for all their processed/packaged foods, the ingredients must be 'natural'?

Oh yeah, that could be it. Usually whatever they stock would be considered at least mid-shelf or top-shelf quality at a Thrifty's.

The bananas I saw for $.88 were referred to as "yellow bananas" and they were very yellow! The organic bananas were more expensive.

Are these "hard" markdowns in Canada, or for Prime members only? I saw conflicting reports in the States about whether the price drops were for regular Joes or just the Amazon Prime member.

That's what you get for using "free" public WiFi.  It ain't free: Your (in-store, physical) browsing habits are being tracked and now they want to implement URL redirections.

I like buying them green.  Yellow ones turn mushy brown and attract fruit flies too quickly in my place.

This. I also store banana peels in a sealed bag in the freezer until I am ready to dispose of them; otherwise fruit flies are guaranteed.

Don't lie. We all know you're storing those for a hilarious day of cartoon-esque banana peel slip shenanigans!

Pro tip: separate the nanas from the bunch and they won't all ripen at the same time.
Bonus Pro Tip: peel upward from the bottom and avoid those messy stringy bits.

Placing bananas in a tightly sealed plastic bag (like a bread bag with the open end twisted shut) will slow down the ripening process.

I only buy bananas that are carried north from warmer climates by willing migratory dolphins.

Whole Foods has a new inventory-management system aimed at making stores more efficient and cutting down on food waste. And employees say the retailer's method of ensuring compliance is crushing morale.

[..]

They say many employees are terrified of losing their jobs under the new system and that they spend more hours mired in OTS-related paperwork than helping customers. Some are so fed up with the new system that they have quit or are looking for other jobs. In addition to hurting morale, OTS has led to food shortages across Whole Foods stores, they say.

[...]

The walks also involve on-the-spot quizzes, in which employees are asked to recite their departments' sales goals, top-selling items, previous week's sales, and other information.

Failing scores — which qualify as anything below 89.9% — can result in firings, employees said.

A long and very interesting article.

Reminds me of a philosophy most famously opined by Richard Branson some years ago to the effect that corporations often cite customers as the most important people in their world. Yet in fact employees are - or should be - the most important people in any business. Look after them according to Branson, and they in turn will look after the customer.

One of my extended cousins in London worked as a supervisor of flight attendants at Virgin Atlantic for many years; she couldn't say enough good things about Sir Richard both as a boss and as a person.

He'd often wander around the cabin on international flights in particular and canvas the employees about what they liked about V-A, what worked for them and what did not, and apparently he had a great grasp of their personal lives and would inquire about how someone's granny was after an illness, or how Fido got on at his vet appointment. That is great leadership. Perhaps he knew a thing or two in terms of managing people that W-F might want to take under advisement....
