Victoria All-Candidate Forums: Schedules

If it's OK, I've decided we should have a new thread dedicated to the all-candidates' meetings, and what happened at them. The news media can't possibly cover all the forums in all the municipalities, and this might give us a way of finding out what happened at meetings we couldn't attend.

(If anyone lives in other municipalities and wants to create separate threads for those meetings, please do.)

Downtown Victoria 2020: http://dv2020.ca/ (which has posted the questions but no answers yet)

We do have an active thread called Victoria All Candidate's Forums: Your Impressions under the "Election Issues" heading, and there is a lot of good commentary and conversation there.

But for those seeking information about WHEN and WHERE the All Candidate's Meetings are, let's try to keep this thread free of too much commentary, and post only times, dates, and notes (or podcast links) here, and continue the conversation on the other thread.

JUST WANTED TO EXPRESS MY PERSONAL APPRECIATION OF ALL THE EFFORTS THAT JOSEPH BOUTILIER HAS UNDERTAKEN TO ORGANIZE AN ALL CANDIDATES' MEETING FOR THE CANDIDATES.

As far as I know, this is unprecedented in recent Victoria History.

I think that Joseph will be announcing something very soon, hopefully even today...

This is exciting, as we will be better able to give all candidates a decent amount of time, one hopes, than has been the case at most of these meetings so far.

The DRA is putting on an All Candidates Coffee Lounge, to help get a better idea of which candidates have a vision for Downtown. This event will be less formal than some others - rather than have the speakers talk for 2 minutes into a microphone, there will be tables and couches around the room for the candidates, and the crowd will be welcome to grab a coffee and circulate to talk to the candidates whose positions interest them.

Hi,
I just wanted to clarify that the website and the facebook group aren't the same organization, although they both have the same name. The website is a group of independent organizations and non-profits, and the facebook group is sponsored by the City of Victoria. Both are saying the same message, though... encouraging people to get involved and educated about the upcoming election, and then vote! Just a coincidence that both have the same name.

Is there any information as to which ones are free and which are paid seats?

The Nov 12th All Candidate's Coffee Lounge is free. I believe the chamber is doing a mayoral breakfast or lunch that same morning which is paid tickets. But I am fuzzy on the details.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities estimates that approximately 50% of all greenhouse gas emissions are directly or indirectly controlled or influenced by municipal governments?

The City of Victoria is one of 133 municipalities in BC that have signed on to the provincial government’s Climate Action Charter that commits it to being carbon-neutral by 2012?

Recent changes to the Local Government Act specify that official community plans (OCPs) must include greenhouse-gas reduction targets and plans to achieve them?

Local governments have a critical role to play in developing programs to reduce emissions and in preparing our communities to adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Edit: Nevermind, I get it. 8 councillors will be elected, and will therefore be voting on bylaws and proposals and all that jazz during council meetings...making the council candidates "potential voters".

Joseph Boutilier deserves credit for successfully securing the Saint Andrew's Elementary School gymnasium Meeting this Saturday at 7 pm.

This will provide an opportunity for the Councillor Candidates to make ourselves better known to the public, and for parents, neighbours and others concerned about the City of Victoria and VIHA's never-rescinded plans to place a needle dispensary in Our Place, nearby the Conservatory of Music, St. Andrew's Elementary and Preschool, and Christ Church Elementary and Preschool.

I hope that the Principal of the School, Keefer Pollard has the good sense, grace and presence of mind to allow Joseph Boutilier to publicize this meeting among the school parents, and to remind his parents of the time and date of this meeting, so important to their interests, and the interests of their innocent children.
