Is that the one on Hillside between Douglas and Blanshard? Where's the house located?
No, that would be the Holiday Court between Douglas and Blanshard (in between SG Power and Long and McQuade)

That idea was very negatively met by the people on Lotus Street that live behind the location. The Lotus street houses are on a significant slope down from the development and the fear was that they their backyards would have the condo looming over them.
From the designs I saw of the development, what I did not like was the set back from the street. I think it would be better closer to the street, though making a parking bay in front of the building and having retail in it.
What the current plans are I am not sure of.

according to the latest edition of the Burnside Gorge Community News, a rezoning application has been made for 15 and 21 Gorge Rd East (site of the Capri and the house next door). "A partnership between the Greater Victoria Housing Society and RealHomes Development Company Ltd has been established to develop this parcel into purpose-built rental apartments featuring a mix of one and two-bedroom units, renting in the $970 - $1300 range. Current plans are for approx 52 units in a four storey building to include underground parking. Target tenants will be lower income working singles, couples and small families and seniors."
Crikey, $1,350 for a 2bdr in Cook Street Village seems pretty damned reasonable, all of a sudden.

A long-planned redevelopment of the Capri Motel site at 15-21 Gorge Road East moved a step closer to reality when the City’s Planning and Land Use Standing Committee said yes to allowing a rezoning/Development Permit to go to Public Hearing.
The plan is to build a four-storey, 52-unit apartment building, owned and operated by the Greater Victoria Housing Society, on the motel site and the adjoining lot, which currently holds a single-family house. The GVHS would partner with RealHomes Development Company during the construction phase.

We should be seeing construction start on this job hopefully this month, but if not, after Christmas. Knappett is the general
Yeah!
Though I wish the project was more than what it is, that there was more density and there was some decent retail and commercial space, but whatever, it is better than what there is there at the mement

I was driving down Gorge Road today and saw a crane up at this project.

We would also like to thank the dedication of all the consultants in providing outstanding work to make this a cost effecient project. Thank you also for the forward thinking and financial grants to assist in this project by the City of Victoria and the CRD. In providing initial grants the City of Victoria and the CRD are helping to provide new build non subsidized affordable housing for lower to middle income earners for the future. Thank you also to CMHC for their seed money for development and BC Housing for financing. Without the whole team effort this project could not have made it out of the ground.
That sounds like a lot of subsides to me!
I guess their monthly rent is not subsidized, but the taxpayer is paying at the front end.
I find it wrong that we build this kind of thing. Let's just do monthly rental assistance grants, then people can live where they want/need to, like near organized daycare, or near other family members that may assist with childcare etc., or near their work. Doesn't that make a lot more sense?
Two elevators I see. That sounds like a lot. My former condo had one elevator for 63 units (but only 36 parking stalls, as this building has a parking spots for each unit available). Our one seemed adequate. Wonder what the rule of thumb is?
