This is an actual regular-season game, this Saturday at Royal Athletic Park.

'Caps women head for the Island

By Farhan Devji/whitecapsfc.com

After clinching first place in the United Soccer Leagues W-League Western Conference with last week's win over Santa Clarita Blue Heat, Vancouver Whitecaps FC women (6W-0L-3D) will look to put the final touches on their undefeated season when they play host to arch-rivals Seattle Sounders women (2W-2L-5D) in Victoria, BC, on Saturday afternoon.

The weekend contest at Victoria's Royal Athletic Park will be the first time the Whitecaps play a W-League regular season match in the British Columbia provincial capital since the team was founded in 2003. "This is our last regular season contest and will be a key game to our title hopes, so we hope that Victoria and Vancouver Island will get behind us," head coach Hubert Busby Jr. told whitecapsfc.com. "I know the staff and players are excited to come to Victoria and connect with the community and our fans."

Why are two foreign teams playing a regular season game in our town?

And no, Mr. Busby, this is Victoria. We are not a suburb of Vancouver so you can shove it up yer ... well, you know.

She is regarded as Canada’s best-known international soccer star, and she’s joining her professional team in Victoria for their last regular-season game of the 2010 campaign.

23-year-old Kara Lang and the Vancouver Whitecaps women’s squad will play their arch-rival Seattle Sounders on Saturday afternoon (July 17) at Royal Athletic Park. The match marks the first time since the team’s formation in 2003 that the “W-league” team will play on Vancouver Island. [...]

Wow, and now this gets featured status on the front page while our local teams get the shaft. Nice way to support Victoria.

BTW the Highlanders will be playing a must-win game against the undefeated league leaders Portland on Saturday night if anyone wants to support our local team.

I think if the Highlanders want to sit down for a chat, we'll talk footy with them. People can catch both games, I think.

Sorry if I was unclear. The creation of the article was the real issue, not the placement, since all "articles" are cycled through as you say.

I put articles in quotes because it looks suspiciously like the alleged article was simply a retread of that which appeared in the T-C which, if history is a guide, was likely just a retread of a Whitecaps press release. I guess I hope for better from this site.

Skyscraper Source Media takes allegations of plagiarism seriously. We request that you provide evidence of material being copied from the Times Colonist, or any local publication, that corresponds to content published in the VibrantVictoria.ca article referring to today's Whitecaps game. Proper evidence will be taken into consideration and the situation will be dealt with appropriately.

The VibrantVictoria.ca article in question was published on July 16th. It would appear that the Times Colonist has coverage of the game on the 17th (today). And the author is a personal acquaintance of Roberto Cabrone, the individual interviewed and quoted in this piece.

Tedward, to suggest the VibrantVictoria.ca article is a retread of a previously published Times Colonist article, which you suggest is a retread of a press release issued by the Whitecaps, is a serious allegation and we await your response on this matter.

WTF?!?! I think you better look up plagiarism because facts cannot be plagiarized and this article contained all the same facts as every other media outlet as provided by the Whitecaps.

I had no idea articles on the front page of this site were being done by paid professionals. I assumed it was a volunteer of some kind who is part of this "community" who got their facts either from the T-C article or the Whitecaps media release. I doubt that a reporter from Skyscraper Source Media independently researched and conducted interviews for the article in question but if that is the case I will be happy to apologize.

The author did indeed conduct a telephone interview and e-mail followup with the Whitecaps spokesperson named and quoted in the article. Then other facts were put together using a FIFA website and information from the Canadian Soccer Association.

The author is also pleased to inform you that he also attended the game, and took the time to speak with Highlanders GM Drew Finerty while there too. ;)

If that is the case then I apologize for any suggestion that the author was the typical sports reporter and look forward to some insightful reportage of our local soccer team as they look to finish the season.

I think an article about the possible move of the Highlanders to USL2 or even the NASL and how that relates to a possible move to Royal Athletic Park would go down quite nicely after shilling for the foreigners. :D
