7-screen Cineplex Odeon theatre coming to Westshore Town Centre

Cineplex Entertainment, operators of Victoria’s Odeon Theatre on Yates Street and the Silver City theatre at Tillicum Mall, has revealed plans for the capital region’s newest theatre.

The seven screen, 26,000 square foot Cineplex Odeon Westshore Cinemas will open at Westshore Town Centre in Langford in the spring of 2011 and will usher in the latest in theatre sound and video technology.

“We are delighted to bring this new theatre to Langford and the Greater Victoria area as the community needs another theatre,” said Pat Marshall, Vice President Communications and Investor Relations, Cineplex Entertainment. “Cineplex Odeon Westshore Cinemas will feature the latest in cinema design and technology including stadium seating, digital and 3D projection and UltraAVX,” said Marshall.

“This state-of-the-art theatre will provide a strong entertainment component to complement the already extensive selection of merchants and will further solidify Westshore Town Centre and Westshore Village as the preferred shopping destination in Langford and the Western Communities,” said Wayne Popowich, Senior Vice President Shopping Centres, Bentall LP.

Construction is expected to start in October.

Quote: Took a look around inside the lobby area yesterday. Very nicely finished inside. I was really impressed A lot bigger on the inside. Exterior is misleading. Much classier than Silvercity when it opened.

Silvercity has looked pretty beaten up for years now. But that says alot about the management there.

Here's hoping that Westshore Cineplex will be able to keep things in tip top shape in the years to come.

No doubt the money saved on repairs and paint etc...benefits managements' year-end bonuses by keeping operating costs down.

From what I hear, the manager of the new cineplex is the former manager of Silver City. Whether that's a good thing or not remains to be seen.

If it's the same guy then probably not a good thing.
