Force behind Johnson Street Bridge counter-petition’s success pondering political future
JohnsonStreetBridge.org, the group responsible for collecting nearly 10,000 counter-petitions from Victoria residents who felt that borrowing $42-million to replace the Johnson Street Bridge was a decision best left to voters, is contemplating a political future.
A letter from JohnsonStreetBridge.org (JSB.org) posted on the VibrantVictoria.ca discussion forum states that the group is considering “broadening [it's] mandate into becoming a municipal voters’ league.”
On February 3rd JSB.org will be hosting a potluck dinner where directors of the organization will update the public on the group’s activities since early January, what has been taking place at City Hall since the counter-petition succeeded, what may be in store for the Johnson Street Bridge, and reveal more details about the group’s political aspirations.
[Edit] The event is reserved for participants of the JSB.org counter-petition campaign and is not open to the general public.

Mayor Fortin complained that the jsb.org group were really nothing more than a front for the business interests who backed Rob Reid in the previous election.
Need to be careful that you don't prove him right!

Jan 31, 2010 at 4:55 pmA voter's league is not automatically a political vehicle at the local level. The Guelph Civic League is not a political party at the local level, but a municipal watch dog group. They have values the believe in and report on how local councilors live up them.
