Stalled Bear Mountain highrise poised for re-start

A stalled 213 unit, 14-storey upscale condominium project may finally be revived.

The Highlander project, stalled since 2008 atop Langford’s Bear Mountain Resort development, reached a height of four floors before workers left the construction site.  Recently company representative Phil LeSeur claimed that developers are ready to move ahead with updated plans for the building after receiving a green flag from a major lender.

It is believed that market conditions and a drying up of capital may have been the primary reasons for The Highlander’s work stoppage.  The project was also hit with a cease marketing order in April 2008 after  British Columbia’s superintendent of real-estate claimed the proponents did not adhere to the marketing stop date.

The Highlander’s official website is current under construction, according to a statement written on the site, and no updated building design or information has been released for public viewing at this time.

Not far from The Highlander site, foundation work for a four-tower project, dubbed Capella by Vancouver-based Quigg Development, also stalled in 2008.  Marketing for the first of four high-rise luxury condominium towers was in full swing and a construction crane had been delivered from Spain to work on what was to become one of Vancouver Island’s largest highrise projects with towers of up to 45-storeys in height.  Today the crane still stands erected above the site, although the developer has yet to reveal when work on the project will resume.

In other Bear Mountain Resort news, plans are underway for the first grocery store, dubbed The Mountain Market, to be located in the resorts commercial area by late 2010.  Also in the planning stage are several other real-estate projects although no detailed information on marketing or construction dates has been released.

The rumour on the street is that Len Barrie's old home is being used in the production of Bachelorette Canada.

I wonder if that's because Sparky started the rumor here or if it's actually true :p

It is Bachelor Canada, and the big reveal of who it is is tomorrow. There are 24 hour security guards at the entrance to Compass Pointe and you have to be "on the list" to get in.

15 of the "girls" will be living in the house, filming starts in May.

Fortunately I have access, watch for my photos on TMZ.
