The grade is in: UVic receives A-

The Globe and Mail’s annual Canadian University Report on undergraduate student experiences at universities across Canada gave the University of Victoria (UVic), grouped with medium-sized universities of 12,000 to 22,000 students, a grade of A-.

The report, polling students on a large set of common university attributes and educational options,  gave UVic’s “quality of education” an A-, matching the national average, while the “quality of academic advising” suffered with a C+, a notch lower than the average.  Student financial assistance dipped below the average with a C- for “need-based scholarships and/or bursaries,” compared to a national grade of C, and a C for “availability of merit scholarships,” compared to a national grade of C+.  UVic’s “overall university atmosphere” rose above the average with an A, compared to an A-.  Campus technology and library services were among the highest rated attributes.

Tuition at UVic was $400 higher than the national average with a yearly sum of $5,282.  Off-campus housing was between $5,096 to $6,208 per student, compared to $4,527 to $5,670.  However, on-campus room and board was approximately $1,000 less expensive per year than at other comparable universities, costing students between $5,956 and $7,786 per year.
