Victoria International Airport’s mid-year traffic on-par with 2009
The Victoria International Airport’s 2010 mid-year passenger traffic volumes have remained virtually on-par with 2009.
733,619 passengers flew via Victoria International between January and June. The same time last year, 734,559 passengers flew in or out of the facility.
While the total traffic count remains virtually unchanged, the habits of travelers are anything but.
20,000 fewer passengers flew between Victoria and Canadian airports in 2010 (totaling 583,363), a trend largely attributed to better connections to American airports like San Francisco. As a result cross-border traffic into the United States increased by 9% to 134,149.

2010’s international passenger traffic (to Mexico via seasonal or charter flights) appears to be on track for a new record with 2009’s volume having been already surpassed by nearly 1,400 passengers, totaling 16,107. Traditionally the month of November is the launching point for sun destination flights out of Victoria and together with December passenger activity may be enough to push the count close to a record-breaking 20,000. In 2006, the previous record year, international traffic totaled just under 19,300 passengers.
Air cargo continues on its multi-year decline with a 12% reduction so far this year, totaling just 92 metric tons of cargo.

May 12, 2012 at 12:21 pmI wonder why the annual meeting pamphlet that showed the nonstop flights out of Victoria did not include Phoenix?

May 17, 2012 at 8:13 pmI don't know if this is mentioned somewhere else, but it looks like a new multi-use (bike) path is being built between Pat Bay and the main YYJ terminal. Looks very nice to me. Part of it closest to the parking lot was paved (but cordoned off) when I was out there Wednesday evening.
I'd imagine this will link with the Lochside trail at some point. It should be nice for airport workers commuting, though I imagine some might wonder if it was needed (ie - aren't there other areas that are higher priority for a mu path right now? there was already a decent bike lane). Anyway, as a devoted cyclist, this gets a thumbs up from me.
