A community meeting hosted by the DRA will be held regarding a pub rezoning for 1022 Government (former Christmas store at Government and Fort).

The proponent wishes to transfer an existing 334-seat cabaret license for the Boom Boom Room on Wharf below the Wharfside restaurant over to this new pub (no new seats would be created).

The meeting will be held Thursday, November 29 at 2 p.m. at the Silver Threads Centre, 1728 Douglas St. across from the old Bay building. The building is currently zoned for retail. Sidewalk seating is also part of the proposal. All members of the public are invited to attend this meeting.

What will happen to the Boom Boom room space and his planned music venue?

He could go for a food-primary (restaurant) license.

If he does that he'll have the same problems as Jellyfish with cops telling people to sit down. :D

The cops just go straight to the Taser now, no talking first, from what I understand.

^ that's not much of an exaggerration.

re: this thread i don't think there really needs to be another 'themed' pub but I would much rather have some more of those instead of those lame souvenier stores.

There's no such thing as a pub that doesn't have a theme.

Even if you deliberately designed a pub with no theme, its theme would be its lack of theme.

alright then... whatever goes there will probably be better than any of those souvenier stores. except maybe that spirit of xmas store it's replacing, which actually had nice stuff. i don't think i ever bought anything there though.

I''m surprised it kicked the bucked before the other one down the street.

Thanks to those that came to the meeting. Everyone seemed to think the pub would be a good addition to the street and would add vibrancy night and day. The name of the pub will be "The Bard & Banker".

Here is an overhead view showing the main floor and mezzanine. You can also see a small back room on the left that leads to a small patio overlooking Langley St. The main entrance is on the right.

Why are they building so many secret chambers with no doors?

my guess is because if they had doors they wouldn't be secret chambers. :-)

Those chambers to the bottom right in the picture is the elevator to the offices upstairs.

They are also applying for a small patio on Gov't St away from the building like in Europe.

The Boom Boom Room space will be no longer used unless someone tries to move the Steamers license there.

Looks good. Can't wait to have a pint.

Why wait? I've already had three, and dedicated them to the new place!

This is going to be a great addition!
Is it too much to say Government St. is experience a renaissance? The new independent coffee shops, Salad Loop, 7-11, Irish Times, The new French bistro around the corner on Courtney, MEC, etc... All this within a short period of time!
Now all we need to do is shut central Government St. to vehicular traffic and we're set!
