Yates St, between Quadra and Blanshard.

Unfortunately the wave mural is a disappointment for me, looks like a mosaic that a free download program (loaded with spyware) would have created. Bad enough that the image was stretched vertically, but it appears they miscalculated as there was room to spare at the right hand side..which the filed with grey stone like tiles. The wall of glass on the Yates street side is a nice addition to downtown, but the other sides perhaps feature more concrete than is really necessary. All in all it's still a decent building.

Hey, some interior pictures from flickr as well! The starting prices on some of these suites is really reasonable, in the mid 200s, compare that with say Belvedere, these look pretty decent too, although the neighbourhood is not quite as good (although some might say better).

If all the pics don't show up, go here:

wow, you can really see in this last picture that if they ever built a fatscraper on the Empire Theatre (old Capitol Six) parking lot, it would totally wall in their view, and seal them in perpetual darkness...or sorta!

Post your Wave pics and comments below:

That space between the Wave and 860 View is smaller than I thought. As is, life would be okay back there, but if anything every comes along on the Capitol 6 parking lot...my gosh, the humanity.

Victorians still don't seem to get it, fatscrapers aren't a solution, THEY'RE THE PROBLEM.

It's odd how the commercial space is set back so far in the far left of the first pic.

Don't like the fireplace.
Where's the tile around the base of it?
Is that faux marble?

I'd prefer they leave these gas fireplaces out of new condo units altogether. They take up so much space.

Hey!! Is that the start of a rooftop patio garden type thing? looks like nice walkways or something. Will the big flat part of the roof be accessible to residents? If not, I hate the building!

Wow, so much to comment on:

Gas fireplaces: yes, they take up too much room. And modern buildings are fairly well insulated and the climate so mild that you only have to fire it up for a few minutes and the place is baking, even in winter. So you can't really enjoy it.

Yeah, the mural looks like the work of a committee trying to be artistic.

The view of the CIBC tower is a damning indictment of the fatscraper proposal.

I was just going to comment on the CIBC office tower. It will be really nice when this city gets a much nice signature office tower in the CBD. That building just doesn't do this city justice.

I love the blue glass too....I just wish that the top few floors didn't have that huge cement wall on the west face and that, that section of the building rose another 5 floors.

I like this building including the mural. The only part I don't like is the setbacks on the commercial part of the building.

It has a whole new look!

^You mean the sidewalk is too wide?

I kinda like the brutal simplicity of the CIBC tower appearance. It's a product of its era and adds diverisity to the skyline. A city of shiny glass towers would be boring.

Yes I agree but a City with one single concrete block is even more boring! hahaha

I like it, and it's kept very well for it's age. I just would like to see something more modern and more artistic in the skyline.

That big concrete "fin" on the Wave's roof should have been a glass atrium instead. Either a penthouse or a common area.

Methinks slick common areas on the rooftops of these condo buildings would make it much easier to sell the less appealing units on the lower floors/rear.

The Capitol 6 lot is tailor-made for a couple of towers with a split in the middle. Or one taller tower.

yeah but the proposal is for a monster short version of a modern day View towers taking up the whole lot.

I went to a meeting at City Hall a month ago when the Developer had a sort of open house. I wish I could get a photo of it. I do have the consultants business card...maybe I could ask him for a copy of the rendering.

Total 16 stories.

That's not good. Whatever they ultimately build there, it needs -- at the very least -- a significant cutout like Aria. Ideally it should be two separated towers or one taller tower.

Aastra, you use the best visuals.

I believe it was Mr. Black who first made use of those coloured semi-transparent shapes to indicate hypothetical new construction. They're very effective.
